So this will be my second application cycle. My MCAT last year was 28 (10V, 10P, 8B). I went ahead and applied with it, got one interview, but no acceptances.

So my plan is to study like hell after I graduate and retake it this July 16th so I will have my scores back Aug 16th. If the scores are acceptable I will then submit my AMCAS that same day.

Last year my sGPA was 3.5 (will be higher this time around) and cGPA of 3.66 (will also be higher now). My GPAs are only this low due to freshman year. Ive had 3.75 science GPAs all other years and 4.0 non science classes.

So my point is, will applying August 16th really put me at an extreme disadvantage? I dont want to submit my AMCAS before I get more scores because I refuse to pay that money again if I don't score better, and I also do not want to be considered a re-applicant at all these schools.

Also as far as my MCAT was concerned, I didnt take any full official practice tests, and I only took the MCAT once, so im reasonably confident that I can score better.

Thanks.

tl;dr will August application put me at too much of a disadvantage?

I applied in August with 3.66 cGPA, 3.50 sGPA and 33R MCAT (9P 11V 13B), and got exactly 2 interview invites. One resulted in a waitlist that I was eventually accepted off of. The other, I'm still waiting to hear back.

Basically, apply as early as you possibly can. I barely scraped my way in applying in August, and wish I had applied earlier (waited for LORs and Committee Letter).

If it is your second application cycle, I would say that you want every edge you can possibly get. Applying early is a HUGE edge. Seriously.

Think of it this way. If your app is better now, won't it be even BETTER June of 2012? I know it seems like now is the best time, but if you can hold out for another year, apply early AND beef up your app with more ECs, I would recommend you do it.

It's a marathon, not a sprint🙂
