July MCAT thoughts??

Hi all,

I was planning on taking the MCAT on July 7th, AMCAS predicts results released on August 10th. Is this late for schools with rolling admission?? Of course I will submit my primary at the start of July, so when I get the score I will be all set. Then I could finish all my secondaries by the end of August. Or should I push to be ready by June 17th??

Only you know whether or not you can handle moving up your MCAT test date, but an AMCAS completion date of August 10th is very late considering that most of your colleagues will have submitted in early June.

I would say that if you decide to stick with the July MCAT and you score decently and are otherwise a well rounded applicant, to consider reapplying earlier (early June) the next application cycle if this current cycle doesn't work out for you.

If you have a great application, you'd probably be fine. If it's a more typical application, applying later decreases your chances enough to think very hard about whether you really want to wait that long.

I know 2 people who submitted in October and got into a top 15 school that has rolling admissions.

I am a very competitive applicant.

I'd call October "very late". You'd be way less late than that: what I'd call late-ish if you're complete by September 1. If you're very competitive, then you can be less concerned.

Thanks for the answers. I am asking to avoid paying the $55 rescheduling fee. I have started studying but the majority will be May and June. Registration is now open. I think I will go with July 7th and then if I feel ready, try to reschedule for june 17th.
