Hey, so whats the deal with waitlists at this point? We have all heard the stories of people geting in the day before, but how realistic is that? Do schools really accept people off the waitlist anymore? If they do, how is a spot created-most classes are full? Anyone care to enlighten me?
(I am accepted elsewhere, but still waiting out the AECOM waitlist)

It is always possible that the waitlist will continue move until matriculation. However, this year from what i've heard from other SDN people is that waitlist movement was been slow/stagnant. Sometimes, spots open up when they get offers at more desirable schools and this creates a domino effect. Other times, students decide to defer their acceptance, thus creating available seats.

Do you know where you are on the AECOM waitlist? If you are somewhere at the top and know that there has been movement at AECOM...movement could still happen. Best of luck. :luck::luck::luck:

But how wold that domino effect occur at this stage in the game. Meaning, classes are full, so spots shouldn't be opening up?...

I think what he/she meant was: a person (who has a seat at one medschool) hears back from a better school and drops the current seat-->which opens up a spot for someone on the WL (or acceptance elsewhere)-->and so on.

So the chances of Columbia (for example) having a spot open up is essentially zero? Is this correct?

pretty much.

I'm a similar situation as well (waiting on a school which starts mid-aug, accepted elsewhere which starts end of this month). I'm not going to wait around, but if I do hear back, I'm changing plans.

where are you waiting to hear from? and where were you accepted? maybe the dates each school starts will help you out with the wait?

I know you were listing Columbia as an example, but I think it's safe to say it's almost 0% chance there now. They accepted 4-5 more students than they meant to, so their waitlist won't move until at least 5-6 students abandon them. Since that probably won't happen, and the people who wpuld be getting in if any are those that Dean Frantz already all-but-guaranteed would get in earlier in the summer, there is essentially 0 chance now. :-\

And what is your overall opinion?
