Last year, when I thought I wouldn't have a chance at all, I got a conditional acceptance to med school, but I found out about 3 weeks before they wanted me to start that they required attendance at a prep program with a passing grade before it would be official. I wanted to jump at the chance, but it all came at a horrible time in my life, so I did something I never imagined I would do. I declined and decided to re-apply this year. Now I am focused, hopefully no more family tragedies, I AM READY.

I even got my first interview coming up at the school that accepted me last year. Even way earlier than the last time they called (which has to be a good sign). I am excited, but deep down, I would like to stay in my state because the cost of living would be a lot cheaper. However, I don't want to wait around for a school I am not sure I'll get into, if I get accepted to another great school that wants me. I have really good grades, lots of extracurricular activities, and strong LORs, but my MCAT score leaves much to be desired.

Should I jump at the first opportunity I get, or pace myself. At this point, my first choice is slipping down the ranks.

Hang in there; you do not have to commit anything but some money at this point either way. The deposit at UMDNJ is only 100$ compared to thousands of dollars the other schools ask for so if and when you are accepted there you can just drop your other acceptance. I would hold on to your first and only acceptance though, at least until you are accepted elsewhere.

Yeah, a comparatively "small" amount of money will go a long way at MSUCOM also. They have asked for a $450 deposit that goes toward tuition and a $50 professional school application fee. It isn't pocket-change, but compared to the $2,000-2,500 deposit that some of the private schools require I can't say I mind at all.
