hey everybody,

if you're taking step 1 this june, how much are you studying now?
i had grand intentions of starting in jan...but since it's march i'd say i'm a little behind. just wondering what the rest of you are doing right now to prepare. with school work, it seems like there's not much time to specifically devote to step 1 prep. thoughts?

man, i'd love to start reviewing biochem and neuro right now, but unfortunately my school is kickin' into high gear so i've only been focusing on my classes right now (pharm and systemic path). i consider studying for those heavy hitters is like studying for boards though, so i'm not too worried......yet

im with Ipe on that one. when im going thru path and pharm though with a group we take that disease or organ we are looking at and kinda review the phys, anatomy, and cellular anatomy. there just isnt enough time to micromanage your prep....so i think a top-down, integrated approach is suffiecient until you can dedicate 100% of your time during break or may...

I haven't started studying for the boards yet either. We have a crazy second year schedule (Path, Psych, Pathophysiology, Pharm, and a bunch of smaller classes), so I just don't have all that much free time to review right now. The good thing is that my classes have Shelf exams at the end of the year, so I'll get a good revew going when I study for those.

i am 2 months behind. i wanted to start on new years too.

i guess that will shave 30 points off my score.

study crazily now. Forget about regular lectures and study 4-6hrs eveyday for the board.

Really??I hope this isn't true. We have 5 subject boards between now and the end of April so I am hoping that prepping for these will count as my board review. I am also listening to Goljan over.

you've got to be kidding me. if i quit studying for my regular lectures, i don't think my school would even let me sit for the boards. you gotta make it through 2nd year.

and don't know if my path teacher is a good source of board prep info, but according to him if you are kicking some ass in path you should study some phys, take the boards early and have a nice long summer break.

I don't feel like to prove anything. The fact that you don't study that much for the board now doesn't mean others are not. I DO STUDY THAT MUCH. SORRY TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH. 🙁 But I am sure you dont need to study that much to get a good score. Good luck.

yikes, maybe i wasn't clear. i don't have time to study for the boards now because i am busting my ass to get through my current classes. as soon as finals are over, i'll be spending tons of time with board prep books. good luck on your board studies, thanks for telling me the truth 🙂

I'll probably start studying for anatomy after spring break.

i have no idea what you are getting riled up about. lilmo was just simply saying, and i feel the same way, that if we don't study for our classes, we probably won't do very well in them.....enough said. and studying for my classes now is like studying for the boards, so i don't feel bad not devoting 7 hours of my day to Step 1 studies. that will come later my friend :horns:

I have to say, it's hard to motivate to study outside the current 2nd yr curriculum - which is all systems path, so it's great prep for the boards. I review the physio, histo along with studying for the current block.

I started studying outside stuff, like biochemistry this week. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be (using HY Biochem & First Aid only). But now that we have 8 weeks left, I do feel like I need to really kick it into high gear with school studying + boards studying == no life till June 7th?

Peace.

I just want to test your CN 7 now, could you smile for me? 🙂 Thanks.

I think that it is good idea to study well for your current classes as every 3rd year student will tell you. On the other hand, most students don't get 240+. So what is the best strategy as it is only 3 month left? I don't know.....

any input?

I simply study for my exams in my pathology class. The class at our school is "high-yield" for every subject on the boards, unlike typical medical school path courses.

I'll probably start studying for anatomy after spring break.

I think you should marry Dr. Goljan, since you seem to be in love with him. 🙂

man. i just took me 3 weeks to finish reading First Aid, and it's not my first time through

i'm in bad shape.

I could care less about him. The material he provides us is good enough for me, however.

Liar. You care about him deeply. You mention him in every single one of your posts. I'm pretty sure you do it on purpose, as if being obnoxious on a message board makes you cool.

Guess what? The Kaplan Anatomy professor teaches at my school. Did you know that...huh...huh...huh...huh? I am soooooooo ready for boards. I'm going to mention him in every single one of my posts, just to act like a jackass! 🙄

Pathology covers every subject on the boards. Anatomy does not.

Not that I should even bother replying to you, because you obviously do respond obnoxiously on purpose, but what is OSU's average board scores? They must be the best in the country, if having Dr. Goljan as a teacher prepares you for everything.

From what I've heard from friends at school... questions, questions, questions during the last 1-2 months before are key

The average on USMLE & COMLEX is above the national average, and the USMLE/COMLEX pass rates have been around 99%-100% the past several years.

Hey goofball, OSU college of osteopathic medicine doesn't release their COMLEX and USMLE pass rates. In addition, they would have to make a version of "Stand and Deliver" starring Edward Goljan MD for taking a school with an average incoming GPA of 3.3 and MCAT of 25 and getting them to pass the USMLE 100%.

Goljan is good, but lets face it. The only reason he is teaching at your osteopathic medical school is because he was already teaching at the Oral Roberts College of Medicine (Tulsa, OK) when it went bankrupt. He found it convenient not to move so he stayed in Tulsa, and started teaching at the osteopathic school there.

I'm not really sure why it matters that Goljan teaches at my school. The fact is he does teach here. Who cares what brought him here? That doesn't affect my life any.

On a side note, OSU-COM DOES release their COMLEX scores. It is on their website and in numerous written and electronic publications. The USMLE scores were made public, but not "officially released" by school officials.

Yeah, basically Im focusing on coursework because studying for that will be on the boards. Im kindof following along with first aid and path brs and then doing a little first year stuff here and there. Ive tried to do a little qbank but havent gotten that far. Im not feeling that organized with my boards studying right now. 🙁 But hopefully things will fall into place with all the shelf exams and stuff by the end of the year. :luck:
