Hey guys,

I’m currently a junior at a well reputed public school in California. This quarter I am taking 13 units including two Science upper division classes and a ge. I currently have a 3.77 gpa and a 3.63 Science gpa. Anyways, in one of my Science classes I really messed up studying for my midterm today and I don’t think I did well.

I am extremely annoyed at myself because the pets that I did study I answered perfectly on the exam but the parts I didn’t get to cover I messed up. Anyways, I think I’m at a risk of getting a B or a C in this class and normally I don’t think I would have any issue getting an A here, had I not been so stupid and planned better.

I know this is all my doing and I’m very angry at myself but I am strongly considering dropping the class right now with a W and overall this would only be my second one so far in college. I really think this is a crucial time with my gpa and I only want to increase it, so I wanted to ask you all of you think this is okay? It would drop my total units to 9 this quarter, which would be the very first time I was ever under 15 units. How would this look? In the mean time I could start my mcat prep. @Goro

Thanks for your consideration.

Don't drop. Just work your butt off to get the B as long as your other classes are A's this semester it should have minimal effect on your GPA. If you drop and take the W adcoms will assume it was because you were failing, which looks worse than a B IMO.

I heard that one or two W’a don’t matter as long as there’s no trend. The last time I got a W was last year and that was my only time, so I don’t think there’s a trend. Also, this isn’t a required class for my major and I don’t have a problem graduating on time. My main concern is that it’s a second W and that my total for this quarter will be 9 units, and this is the first ever time that I’m under 14 units. @gonnif

No two W's isn't a big deal but neither is getting a B. The adcoms will not recommend you to take a W unless you are going to get a D or F in the class.

Honestly I’m really feeling bad because I know that I can get an A in this course. Would one quarter of 9 units and two total W’s be a big deal?

I don't think two W's really are a big deal especially considering your last one was a year apart. I think with W's, if there's a pattern thats the cause for concern. However, the 9 unit part- being non full time, is something I don't know too much about. I'm guessing if its only one quarter, it wont be a big deal. Good luck.

Maybe @LizzyM @gyngyn and @Catalystik can chime in.
