OK, is it just me, or is everyone being bombarded by mailing from Non-US/Carribean MD schools, DO schools, and also from Podiatry schools? 😕 I don't know if they think I am just not capable of getting in a US MD program or if everyone receives the same mail. They are definitely wasting the postage on me though because it all goes into the trash...at least for now. However, if I got rejected from every school I applied to, it might be different...but for now...in the trash!

Maybe they are just interested in getting people to send in the $100 app fee!?! :meanie:

everyone receives them. they want money.

yeah, one day i wrote 'em all back very nicely telling them to **** off.

With all due respect, I think many of the US DO schools are quite good and consistently graduate very good physicians.
But I do understand what you mean, I got packets from Drexel's post-bac program and Chicago Med's as well. Which was terrible since they got my hopes up. :scared:

Yeah, I got all of those. Many schools send them to everyone who took the MCAT. Other schools, even some of the top ones like Washington University, send stuff to everyone who got a high MCAT score (a shameless excuse to get more people to apply even though most of them wont get much consideration anyway), so its possible that you are getting some of this junk mail for good reasons, not because they are singling out people who should be applying to dinky programs.

I know where you are coming from though. Last week I got a letter from Emory about an anesthesia assistant program and was wondering wth dont they think Im good enough to be applying for md, but they send it to everyone who takes the MCAT and I just got an invite to interview at the med school today, so it looks like they dont think im crappy after all.

LOL, many DO schools beat the pants off those allopathic schools that you seem to worship. 😀

hmmmm... makes me wonder now. 😕 Last year I got tons of that chit... this year after taking the MCAT again - silence. Is it possible I did even worse, or are they waiting to see what sort of bottom-feeder I am come Oct. 12?

In any case... boo junk-mail. 👎

Yeah, I agree that many DO schools are quite good. I even applied to one, along with my MD apps. However, I was referring to the 'bottom-tier' ones. You know...the ones with the lowest standards. There are also a few 'bottom-tier' MD schools in the US that I would not even think of going to as well, however, I have not gotten mail from them.

I can't say that I worship any school. I also did not intend to sound like I was suggesting an MD school is better than a DO school. There are without a doubt certain DO programs that are good. I interviewed at one that I was very impressed with, even though it may not be my first choice to attend due to my particular goals.

I guess to be fair to your comment...yes, you are right. Many DO schools beat the pants off of those allopathic schools... and they all beat the pants off those dental schools!!

I don't think everyone gets all of these mailings. I did get all of the military mailings, the podiatry mailings and a few from various allopathic schools, but I didn't receive any from:

DO Schools
Caribbean Schools
Other non-US schools

Just like Washington University only sends to top MCATers, I do think that the DOs and Caribbean schools only send to people with marginal or low MCAT scores. Can anyone corroborate this based on what they received and what their MCAT score was?

I've not received any DO junk mail, but I have received off-shore MD stuff and podiatry. The podiatry kind of wierds me out.

I got one from Minnesota. Odd, considering I'm from nowhere near MN. Hmm. 😕

Interesting. I didn't know the U of MN did much recruiting. What were your stats? (you can give ranges if you aren't comfortable with raw numbers)

The worst one I got last year was after not getting into Columbia, I got a letter from their institute of human nutrition, suggesting a MS in Nutrition would help me get into med school. I already have a MS in Nutrition.

I was thinking something along those lines as well. God knows I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but my first MCAT attempt landed me a 28, and my mailbox was flooded with Caribbean Schools, podiatry info, etc. Maybe these places send info to <30's???

I've rec'd the podiatry stuff even with an MCAT >30. 🙄

I've also rec'd junkmail from: UIC MD/PhD programs, DO schools, and various other medically-related programs.

Yup, me too. In fact, I'm STILL getting that mail to my parents's house, even though I'm an M2 now. 🙄

I prefer this "junk mail" to the usual "enlarge my penis" and "get cheap meds fast" and "MILFS do farm animals live!" that I get every 20 minutes, I can not wait to re-activate my Spam filter, ugh.

I got a 35 on the MCAT and have received both the flattering/bs'ing emails from Wash U and Cleveland Clinic as well as the stuff from podiatry schools, DO schools, and other stuff. I think most of them get sent to everyone, but some of them probably just get sent to everyone who in a certain region or someting like that. Not sure, but am sure that it is not a bad thing if you get them, but is annoying and can seem almost insulting.

My MCAT was 40 and I have yet to get anything from a DO or Caribbean school. An acquaintance of mine who got ~26 got lots of Caribbean mail last year. I have gotten the podiatry stuff, though.

It's really not bad compared to the flood of crap I got for undergrad -- I must have gotten recruitment mail from every college in the US.

You know, I never got any spam until I started this process. I think it's the fault of those stupid military recruitment emails that didn't bother to use Bcc, thereby providing enormous lists of active email addresses.

I guess I'm not on the mailing list then. Is that bad?? 😛

yeah, i got lots of junk mail too from marginal schools. MCAT aug 2003 9p, 9v,8b, but i remember recieving it all after I got my score. I even got a vet school mailing (which is surprising because I hear vet school is extremely hard to get into). i haven't recieved anything this time, maybe that's a good sign or maybe they are a-comin'. 🙁

just wanted to say that you all shouldn't be knocking on podiatry. they are licensed to do anything from the knee down, including surgery. i work in a clinic and sometimes work with the podiatrist. he is by far the most beloved provider. it's quite a cushy life style too. he has 2 practices and still manages to work in a free medical clinic (where i work) 2 days a week. he's put 6 kids through college and his wife doesn't work. with the prevalence of diabetes now, podiatrists are in great demand b/c of neuropathy of the foot.
