I was just summoned to do jury duty for my county (in Cali) next month. Can I get exemption from being selected as juror if I'm leaving town in a few months for med school? How does this work? Thanks!

Just do what I do. When you go in for jury selection and they start asking you questions to determine if you have any biases, tell the defense attorney that his client is probably guilty, because why else would he have been arrested?

They'll quickly tell you that you are dismissed and to have a nice day. Works every time.

That's horrible. If you can, you should serve. I doubt you would want jurors excusing themselves if you were on trial.

Most trials will only take a day or two, so there's no reason (based on your post) that you shouldn't be able to serve. Unless, that is, they have summoned you to serve while you are in school.

If I were on trial, I would want jurors who were genuinely interested in the case and who wanted to be there. As the poster is not one of those, I wouldn not want him deciding my fate in any case. Would you?

Yes, perjure yourself - always a good idea. Just a fair warning, if a judge thinks you're being an *** he can hold you in contempt.

To the OP, why don't you call the individuals in charge of jury duty issues instead of SDN?

yeah i could do that, too. if someone went through the same thing though, that would save me some time 🙂 oh the wonders of SDN.
