Just got back from the mailbox and I found out that I have to appear at court on the 18th of October for Jury duty. Fortunately, my SA interview is on the 17th... But I still have the fear that if I'm selected for the jury, I may have to turn down other interviews. In short, this is a really bad time to be called in for jury duty. I've never done it before, so does anyone have any ideas about the best way to get out of it? It's for the county - not federal. Does that say anything about how much time it'll take to get this over with or whether my applicant status could give me exemption?

Thanks,
-D

Case A (Honesty): Call the appropriate office and plead your case. Tell them the deal and explain to them that you would be glad to do it any other time. This may or may not work.

Case B (100% Lie): When you go in for duty, you (in most cases) will sit in a room for a few hours with a pool of other people. The lawyers have your info (eg race, age, ect..) and choose people from the pool based on if you fit the profile they “feel” is appropriate to interview. You may not even be interviewed, you may just be excused. If you ARE interviewed, this will be your moment of glory.

They will ask you questions to determine if you will be impartial…. The secret here is be as crazy as you can. A classic question would be, “How do you feel about racism?” and You reply “I hate _______ people!” or another wonderful response might be “I think everyone is guilty until proven innocent, and even then they are probably still guilty.”

I know that this is evil and dishonest and luckily I have never had to do this, but I have friends in law school that have told me that this is a sure fire way to avoid jury duty.

Choose what ever case you see fit and good luck,
