They usually turn the volume down if anesthesia asks though.

In my last job the surgeons supplied the ipods and I was the DJ. We had a small but nice speaker system in each OR.
In my current job the surgeons usually supply the music and speakers if they want it. Sometimes we use an internet station on one of the OR computers. I could not care less to tell the truth. There is one universal rule however in my OR... no country or no anesthesia!

I bring my iPod sometimes. It all depends. Some surgeons have a "no music" rule too. It's a shame, because they clearly are not practicing evidenced-based medicine.
