Does occupational related mean you kill yourself with a high speed? Or maybe an overdose of nitrous? I could see how that would be a problem.

It isn't. No valid data has ever shown this. Of course, you are probably referring to the survey done in the 1970s by a group of Swedish nuns, in which their n for dentists = 17.
Then again, there were great surveys in the 70s about podiatry being a crock, and all of those WERE true, so maybe you're on to something.
What are you talking about? Most of our work doesn't require hospital access, although many dentists do have hospital PRIVILEGES and utilize them with pediatric patients, or with immunocompromised patients.
Hospital PRIVILEGES don't really affect the bottom line of dentists much, nor do they do much of anything to the dentist's ability to generate revenue or satisfy/maintain a patient base.
The vast majority of our surgeries are out-patient (obviously).

As I stated in the Podiatry forum (interestingly enough in a response to another prodpod post), I am relatively new to SDN. Some of the interaction is highly entertaining, some informative, some hillarious, and some all of the above.
And like most things some is idiotic at best. If prodpod's initial question were sincere that would be one thing, but to come into a different forum and ask a pointed question as he did, it makes me wonder what his motivation is.

I actually wanted to hear where this rumor originated and if there is any validity to this dino... I am not here to start crap with dental students! I have never seen you on these forums till today which should make me question you I guess if your reasoning where to be applied.
Right ProdPod, like I mentioned I am relatively new to these forums. This means I have recently learned of this website and am getting a feel for what is available here, how things work, and so on.
Having explained what "relatively new to these forums" means (granted, relatively is an ambiguous term), maybe you could help me out?
I have spent way too much time (30 seconds) trying to figure out the last part of your previous post: Specifically the last sentence (which I have posted above for your convenience).

to anyone that knows me/or cares..im a pod student...and i m definatly not about to start another war
but the very few gp dentists i have spoken to do seem to have a bit of malaise, no i dont think they are suicidal, but they do seem kinda down
now i know they are doing well financially, and their personal lives/age/relgious beliefs all vary
so im wondering if its something about the job or the way they practice...or if its actually something you guys have noticed/considered/inquired about, beyond the whole urban legend thing
it seems to me like it might come with the way they practice more than the actual job itself..i mean, gp dentist offices dont need to be huge b/c their equipment isnt that massive, nor do they need alot of space to move around to do their job efficently...so their offices tend to be smaller.....
so my theory is... smaller offices + limited conversation with the pts (they have something in their mouth)= they probably get a little bit lonely during the day, and maybe that kinda spills over into my interaction with them(though they might just hate dealing with me)
any thoughts

my orthodontist is always happy as a clam (5k for a set of porcelins..go figure right)

Heh heh.. Actually, that's a prosthodontist. Orthodontists straighten out teeth. 😀

yeah i could def see how that would eradicate alot of the malaise that i was talking about
oh by the way, maybe i misspoke before, but i think i saw an orthodontist, he gave me braces that were white and i thought made out of porcelian, maybe i mentioned the wrong type of material, but he def made my teeth straight, though since i never wear my retainer, his work may all be for naught

Ah yes. Slight misunderstanding there. When people say "porcelains" a dental professional will immediately think "crowns and bridges," which is the domain of prosthodontists.
What you got are tooth-colored bonded brackets for braces.. That is indeed something an ortho does.
Orthos do indeed make quite a bit of money yes. And wear your retainer, young man. 😀
