Just did UCLA interview today

Hi everyone. I just finished my UCLA interview today. Just for everyone's info, UCLA is still interviewing March and April. There were 8 students at the interview. We were divided up into groups 1 & 2. We had a short essay, school presentation, financial presentation, interview, tour, review your transcripts with Ms. Benitez, and lunch with 4 students. UCLA said they would tell us if we were accepted in 1 week. Overall, it was a good experience. Good luck to everyone!!!😀

They had all my transcripts, except 1. I was just told to mail final grade transcripts at the end of Spring 2008. I think it's okay if they don't have all of them. This is just based on my experience.

I never asked this question. Yet, Ms. Benitez said that UCLA starts to evaluate applications late and interviews later. She just said that interviews will continue March and April. However when i was contacted by email for an interview in Feb., I was given the option of 4 dates only. There are only 8 applicants interviewed on each date. when you go to the Admissions Office, there are only 8 waiting room chairs and only 8 seats in the conference room. Hopefully, this helps.

How do you feel about UCLA vs. UW now that you've been to UCLA?

I honestly loved UW. I think their sim. lab was better or simply more modern. I also felt that the administration went out of their way to care for their students at UW. At the interview, Dean Steiner kept reiterating how there were different resources available to the students. I also like UW's take on giving back to the community. Yet, I know UCLA is one the country's top programs. It has an excellent reputation. At the interview, we were told that 60-70% of the students go on to specialty programs, which include AEGD, GPR, and specific specialty programs. The UCLA students that had lunch with us were very happy with their dental school experience. this made me feel good about the school. I have to admit that I, honestly, would love to go to UW though. I know they're clinically really strong. i also like the small class size. But I'll just have to wait and see what my future holds. 😉

did they seriously give you lunch? Thats so bizarre, because they didn't give our group lunch. I heard that they gave it to the group before us and after us, haha - thats so wierd to me.

Yes, they gave us lunch. It was a lunch in a box with 4 current dental students. 😀

when i interviewed they said the class was half full. i dunno if that helps. but i keep hearing that UCLA accepts most of the people they interview.

Congrats on the interview! How were the nature of the questions- were there any surprises or were they basic interview questions?

The questions were straight forward. My 2 interviewers had my file with them. They had some questions already prepared. For example:
Why did you choose dentistry? You graduated from school X year. Explain. If you got into X, Y, and UCLA, where would you go? The interview was intended to be relaxed, but I still felt under pressure. I hope this helps. 😀
