Yayyyyyy! It is finally over!...... Ok sooo not as bad as it sounds. The test IS very intense and there is sooo much material to study, so it is overwhelming to prepare for it but overall I can say that a decent score is not impossible if you take the time to study. I decided to become a member and post this because when I was studying I had a lot of questions and found not answers for most of them, I found this site and there are soo many people that had a bad testing experience and they just come here to vent and bash every study material they used..... After reading some of the posts i just felt like..."omg im screwed there is no way I can do this"... and I think that being my first time taking the test reading that really effected me because most of the people had bad opinions about the materials I used.
So this post might be a little long but I hope it helps someone.... and if it's your first time taking the test.... don't think too much about what others have to say, everyone has an opinion based on their own personal experience, you def. do not want to come to the test freaking out or overly confident.

Ok, so for my study materials I used the Kaplan class and Crack the DAT PAT. I was a little nervous bc like i said I came to this site and so many pple were saying kaplan was a joke, also I was nervous bc it seemed ppl use sooo many different study source and I only had money to buy kaplan and crack DAT.

My overall scores are:
PAT -> 22.......... Practice: 18,19,19,20
QR -> 16 (ugh.... ).......... Practice: 18-19
Reading comp -> 20......... Practice: 15, 17, 18
Bio -> 17 (def. alot lower than expected, I was kinda shoked)..... Practice: 18-21
Gen Chem -> 22...........Practice: 15-17
Organic -> 23...........Practice: 17-19
TS -> 19
Academic Avg -> 20

PAT- I was using Kaplan at first and I was scoring at around 19... and I heard from some dental students from a school I visited Kaplan was too easy so I bought the 5 test Crack the PAT. I only took 4 of the 5 test and my scores were 18,19,19,21. I would def. recommend it and I think the DAT is a little easier. Aim for a 20+ on this and u r golden.

QR- used kaplan to study for this.... my practice scores were around 18-19 so I was surprised, I think my score was sooo low bc I had just finished RC and my timer ran out before I answered the last Q so I started freaking out... also kaplan has lots of practice problems which is good but at the same time i feel their math is too easy compared to the real test and they dont really focus on the types of Q's you get on the test.

RC- I only took like 3 full practice test for this section bc there is really no way to study for this.... Thankfully no piano passage for me! ha ha ha my passages were super long and science based but I am a science major so I knew some answers without having to look for them. Big mistake i made, when I practiced I used pen and paper to take notes... ummm the marker they gave me was very thick i could barely ready my own writing so this slowed me down a bit.

BIO- I think Kaplan gives you alot of info, which is overwhelming but now that I took the test I feel that is a good thing. This is the section I studied the most for and I was really surprised at my score... however this section is EXTREMELY random!!! Some of the stuff the asked me was like...???? never even heard of that before.... The kaplan tests were in my opinion harder but being over-prepared doesn't hurt, at the same time they focus too much on things like plants and classification... not oven one question on this on my test.

GEN CHEM - I havent taken gen chem in soo long and i was doing horrible in my practice tests so i was really nervous about this section but it was pretty easy compared to kaplan.

ORGO - my best section! woot woot!. I am naturally good at orgo and in my opinion these questions were a piece of cake! finished them all in under 8 min! also, I used some roadmaps to study my rxn which helped alot. I also think kaplan is harder than the real test here.

So total science 19.... not an amazing score but with a 22 PAT and 20 Academic average I hope I get some interviews. I know my total science is low bc my bio sucked but maybe they'll se my other sciences and it'll help.... I feel kaplan was a good tool, and considering I only studied for the test for and a half weeks and I had a horrible flu and upper respiratory infection for almost two of those weeks i feel i did ok.

So im getting ready to apply now I have a science GPA of 3.4 and overall 3.67... and I still have anothe year to finish my BS and all the classes I have left are sciences so hopefully my Science GPA will go up. I also have lots of shadowing/ volunteering and I have worked full time the whole time I have been In school so I have medical experience... anyways.... Sorry this is soo long but I hope it helps someone!

And if any of u guys know or have experience on the application process.... do u think having a 17 on bio is going to screw me up? I hope not... i'm putting my self through school and def. cannot afford to take off of work for another three weeks to study for this again!!!! 😕

You will get some interviews and at least an acceptance or two. You overall score is great. The 16 QR is definitely a black eye, and some schools require a minimum of 17 on each section, so that could become an issue.

Research the schools you want to apply to and see what their minimums are. You can also call and talk to their admissions people and see how your 17 in bio will be.

On a side note, I completely agree that bio is random. I had stuff about evolution, natural selection, kentucky bluegrass, etc. Definitely the toughest section for me as a non-science major.

Solid overall numbers. Sure the Bio could be better, but, overall, the application looks good.

How many schools u plan to apply to?

16 was QR not RC. If it was RC, I would say chances would be slim to none. However, the national avg for QR is always low and most schools don't put much emphasis on that section according to trends of accepted students. So, you should be okay for some interviews based upon the DAT score. 17 bio is the worst thing I see, but your other science scores compensate for it and give you a solid TS score.

"Kentucky Bluegrass?!" .... nice lol. Anyways I had another question and maybe you can help me..... I'm hispanic and the dentist I shadow said I should apply to schools that have low numbers of hispanics.... do u have any idea which schools might be a good idea? I'm not trying to be lazy but i have tried to research it and not many schools put information about this on their site.

I'm thinking about 6? or so..... I'm doing this all by myself and i live on my own so money is very tight.... wish I could afford to apply to more to improve my chances. I was only going to apply to 5 but I just found out LECOM is opening for their first class next year and im a FL resident so i'm applying there too!

Thanks! thats kinda what I was thinking but I wanted a second opinion..... and I called the admissions ppl at Meharry today and the guy I talked to said i was good =)
