Just got accepted to UCSF!!!!!

Anyone else get in??Got the call as well. 
I was surprised getting a call from the dean. After going to UCSF for the interview, all I can say is that the dean, faculty, and students are second to none. I would be proud to go there. Since I got in to my top two schools, now I have the dilemma to choose which one to attend.

Is it fair for me to say that after seeing all those change UCSF did this year facilicty wise. It now shares the #1 spot with UOP in my mind?

Yeah - same here. Had a feeling it was coming sooner than later. Congrats to those of you who were accepted - it is a fantastic program.

I just wished they gave me my decision SOONER rather then make me wait for 5 months then deny me. FINALLY got this fat monkey off my back and I can start focusing on Pacific now😀
I got an e-mail saying that I am "invited" to take a position on the alternate list. A little disheartened but I'll take it. The problem is that I'm pretty sure I haven't completely fulfilled UCSF's ridiculous pre-req requirements, and I don't know if I should even register for some of those classes next quarter when the decision is still up in the air.
Ya take it!!! I think you were in my interviewing group for Oct 5th right? Alternate list is better then nothing at this point. Have you gotten accepted to other schools?

Yeah I interviewed on the 5th. I'll take the alternate list but chances seem slim. I've already put down my deposit at another school but I'll probably take UCSF over that school. What's annoying is that I might have to register for English classes when I probably won't even end up at UCSF. That writing assignment that we had to do on the day of the interview should be used to determine whether additional English classes were necessary.
That varies every year. They took 1 off the alternate list last year and they took 9 the year before. It's different every year
Thanks Peerless. Dang took 1 off the year before? I better make my deposit soon just in case. Also i noticed that you're gonna attend uop so i was wondering should i expect a rejection letter from them soon since my status has been "rereview in jan" for months and it's now feb.

Are you SURE it's 11 and not 1? Cause I heard 1. BUT I could be wrong cause that was 5 months ago.
Hum...I dont really know what to answer to that question. In reality I want to say that you're right on this one. BUT I really don't know what's going on with Pacific at this point. apparently they're only handing out alternate interviews as of this point.

i haven't decided yet.. both of these schools were my top choices so it's a tough call. is anyone else concerned about the financial state of the UC schools??
UOP:
PRO: 3 years, Pacific "family" environment, awesome SIM clinic, great clinical exposure, & good patients pool.
Con: EXPENSIVE and that's pretty much the only downfall in my opinion.
UCSF:
PROs: Will prepare you better on the didactic part of the curriculum/board 1 if you want to specialize, a lot more research opportunities, I actually like their clinic better than UOP's, It's a lot more spacious for the individual unit, huge summer breaks, offers a joint MBA program with SF STATE if you're interested, 2 half days a week to do whatever you want and that just sounds AWESOME.
CONS: Currently having lil trouble with the budget, laid off couple clinic faculties (talked to admissions on that,) lost Dentical recently so don't know how much patients they'll lose out due to that, potential increase of the tuition even more in the future, and b/c UCSF has almost all the specialty programs, they do screen patients so as the DDS students, there will be some limitations as to what you can and can't work on. Sure you can go to their specialty clinics and assist, but it's not the same as working on actual cases.
Anyway, ya that IS gonna be a tough choice b/t the two but you're in a win-win situation. As much uncertainty UCSF is having right now due to the budget, you just can't rumble up the traditions that school has established that much and it's still a great program. You really can't go wrong with either schools. Hopefully I'll get to see you at Pacific, if not then good luck at UCSF.
If you have not received an email about not receiving the deposit, then you should be fine.

I recieved a conformation email like 3 days after I sent my check, but I only live like 30 miles from sf. This was in the begining of the month right before they accepted the last group so there might be a lot of checks coming in at the same time now.
