I am a non-trad student who went to a Tier 1 law school for only one semester. I was in the top third of my class in law school, so I did fine grade wise. However, I decided I wanted to pursue a more scientific field that was more fulfilling. I really did not enjoy law and did not want to continue. I went back to undergrad and did very well in the basic pre req sciences.

I am a Florida resident and will retake MCAT in late July. However I think I want to apply now and not have my app sit and wait with the schools I apply to until late August. Not sure if that's the right move?

ECs:
  • Coached youth flag football for a few seasons - 100 hrs
  • League supervisor for an adult sports league in my city (paid) - 350 hours
  • Trained my dog to be a pet therapist and took her to nursing homes and clinics - 75 hours
  • Research Assistant for NASA funded research on team dynamics for going to Mars and other long distance space exploration missions - 300 hours
  • Volunteer at my local hospital's surgical area - 170 hours
  • Just got a job at the beginning of the month as a Medical Scribe for an outpatient procedure clinic - ~1000 hours between now and next fall

Would my 2nd MCAT score coming back mid-late August affect my chances? I may just apply to one or two MD schools, get verified, and wait on my 2nd score for the MD schools.

Not until you have actual numbers in hand. Your 28 is circling the drain. MSAR Online is your friend. OOS public schools favor the home team, especially agains tthose with below avg stats. Central MI acepted only 5/64 OOS people.

You're fine for most DO programs.

Goro suggests:

FSU
FIU
FAU
USF
Oakland
Western Michigan
Quinnipiac
Penn State
Commonwealth

Thanks for the post, Goro. I meant am I at a disadvantage if my next score comes in mid-late August? I would love to expand the list should my MCAT score improve, but it seems like it's borderline late at that point to apply to new schools. At least verification would be out of the way.

Also, how does the DO school list look? Good mix?

I suspect that you'll be OK with the FL schools, and the DO list looks fine. Overall, I think you're in a good position if the MCAT score goes up.
