The Committee regrets that it will be unable to offer you a position in this
year's entering class of 2010. Each year the number of qualified applicants
far exceeds the limited number of positions in the first year class.
Consequently, the selection process eliminates some very talented and
capable people.

did they ever formall reject you for last year's cycle? if they didnt its prob that. if they've already rejected you for last year's cycle i would call and find out.

for what its worth i just got an email from BU saying they cashed my check

This just looks like they were lazy and took their sweet time mailing you a rejection letter for last cycle. Same thing happened to me, I got a rejection letter from last cycle after I had already submitted my app for this cycle.

Yea, that's last years cycle. I remember students talking about this same situation last year. Boston is really late rejecting students.

i was surprised to receive a rejection letter this early from BU. apparently yes, it is from 2010. do you guys think BU does this every year? like what if our DAT re-take scores are not in yet, and they already put our files on the side and never ever look back.. and decide to distribute out the rejection letter next august..??!?!

yeah, just got the same thing. was really bummed til i read the 2010.

my heart skipped a beat when i got the email, i read it 2x then i said to myself no one has even gotten an interview yet, so i read it a third time and saw 2010 and was slightly relieved, but just posted a thread to make sure it's not for the current cycle

I think this is a good sign for this cycle. It sounds like they held on to your app til the last second. I've heard of students getting accepted the day before classes start because somebody backed out. It would make sense that they would hold off until the last second on a handful of apps just in case they have to fill a spot. Tells me they were serious about you. I go my rejection fairly promptly from BU last year. I might just be reading way too far into it though.
