My wife and I just had our second little girl! We named her Isabelle Sophia. What does this have to do with dentistry?... Well nothing really, I just wanted to shout out the news to all the world.

By the way I'm also in love with Katie Holmes!

No, but seriously I wanted to get everyone’s take. Do dental schools look favorably on people who have a family? I mean do they see it as, "oh crap, here's a guy who's going to have to spread himself too thin, and he won't do well in his classes." Or do they look at it like, "here's a guy who isn't going to be out partying the night before a test and is going to have some clear goals."?
I guess it really will come down to what image I am able to portray in my interview.
What are your thoughts?

Wow congrats!

and Katie Holmes is brainwashed :scared: 😀

Congrats on the new baby!

I heard that dental schools like people who are married with kids... they tend to be more mature and more focused.. less partying & relationship problems, more studying... they do well in school too, so you will be just fine 🙂

Congratulations bro. I'm sure she'll grow up to be a beautiful and smart girl. I think that dental schools do like applicants who are more mature and have a family. I think that the main reason is that professors are able to relate to them more.

Congratulations! and I agree, dental schools like people with life experience and who have lives outside of school.

They'll probably ask you how you will be able to manage raising a child while attending dental school. It is very tough but, I think if your wife is very supportive of you, the both of you should be fine. I know a couple of people in medical school who have a baby to take care of. They seem to be doing very well so far. Congratulations on the new bundle of joy!!! 😀

My wife and I just had our first child, in fact, I am staying home with her this year while I apply. I asked the Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Nebraska Medical Center point blank about children and dental school. He told me that it is no big deal and that he even has a current student who has seven children. I mean, realistically, who would undergo dental school with children if they didn't really want to be there. Further more, failure is not an option when you throw a family into the equation.
