It looks like the interview feedback section is "under attack" from spammers, and so if any of you guys have any questions, let me know. I just got back yesterday, and I'm not going to lie - UCSF is awesome, they have a really great program. You can either PM me or just post on here.

How was the staff and the closed file interview, were you asked any questions in particular that were out of no where or you weren't prepared for. What hotel did you stay and and do you have any general recommendations. Congrats, you're quite lucky to be done w/ your interview you've got a 50% chance roughly of getting in, I don't think I'm getting an interview before the Dec 1st deadline :-/.

Were you interviewing for the DDS program or the dual DDS/PhD program?

That's great that you are done with your interview! I interview there this Friday. How was the writing portion that you had to do? Was it over-all a low stress day? How did you prepare for the interview? Any particular advice that you have to give?

Any help would be much appreciated!!!!! 🙂

hey fireblast713, is it really a 50% with the interview? don't get me too excited now.😛

The staff was great, they were really nice. Contrary to the way that they did it before, they have bagged lunches with a couple options for everyone. You eat lunch with Dr. Perry, the assistant director of admissions, and you can ask here any questions you want. The writing portion was a relatively easy question to write something about. They said that it wasn't that big of a deal, and then they said that perhaps the whole admissions committee will read it, so I don't know about its importance. But don't worry about the difficulty of the question, I'm sure that you will be able to write at least something. I was applying for the DDS program. And yes whoever was wondering about the 50% stat. I believe that that is correct. I think that they interview about 240 people and by the end of the cylce they send out 120 acceptances. In regards to where I stayed, I actually stayed with some graduates from my undergraduate college, so I can't really give you much advice on that, except to say that the interview begins at 8 in the morning, so you'll want to be close to the school. The overall day was really not very stressful. Its funny because I seem to always get nervous, and then everything is much easier than you think. They kept saying that because we were there, they wanted us, but that they wanted to make sure that it was the right fit for us. My advice is to relax and not freak out about the interviews. Get to know Dr. Perry because she seems to have a big say in the admission decision. Everyone keep your heads up because they interview into I believe march. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions.

So, I got an interview with UCSF in early January. I am a bit disappointed b/c it is so late, especially after Dec 1. Assuming I rock the interview, how does this late date affect my chances of actually getting in (and not being put on the waitlist)?
Thaaaanks!

What Dr. Perry told us is that UCSF sends out about 40 acceptances on Dec. 1st, and they send out about 120 total, so don't get your hopes down. There are still 80 acceptance letters coming in late december, jan, feb, and march. You should still have a good shot. For instance my friend interviewed there in Febuary and was accepted the following week.

i have another request to ask. If it is still fresh in your memory, can you jot down some more details about how the day went. morning to lunch.
oh and was there a time to interact with other students on the interview?
thanks in advance.

There really isn't much to worry about. The morning consists of Breakfast, intro to UCSF, Q&A, financial aid, writing sample [don't stress, there nothing you can do to prepare for it], then a 2applicant:1student interview and a 1:1faculty interview. It's a fairly typical interview day. After interviews you have lunch and go on a tour.

The only student/faculty interaction was at the interview, we didn't meet any other students or faculty.

thanks harjay,
i'm just asking so that i wont be overhelmed come interview day because it'll be my first. i didn't know that the student interview was 2applicant:1student. how did that go?

Frenchpen, the student/applicant interview for me was way laid back. Honestly, he just asked me to tell him a little about myself and why I was excited about dentistry and UCSF. I think that he grades you on how well it goes, but my guy was really nice, and was easy to talk to.

The student interview was sort of random... we covered topics like 'what do you do for fun,' 'what volunteer experience do you have' and 'how many siblings do you have'. I don't really feel like it in any way reflected a dental school interview.

...more and more endless speculation by people who know nothing about the process. Lots of purported authority on UCSF.

It's been my experience that student interviews don't really account for much, if anything at all.

its equally weighted with the faculty interview. That's what they tell us anyway. Same goes for UNLV
