Well this semester has been a tough one. I managed to make a B in physics 1, a B in organic 1, and an A in qual. analis. My GPA didn't drop much, it went from a 3.36 to a 3.34. I plan on taking the MCAT in April, and physics 2, organic 2, and animal phys. in the spring semester. Hopefully I will be able to graduate next december with a degree in interdiciplanary studies, but I am also considering to just wait until next spring to graduate and complet a degree in biomedical sciences. However, my adviser informed me that 1/3 of med school acceptances are interdiciplanary studies degree, and that I would be fine with that. I was just looking for different oppinions from you guys on what you would be doing from this point out if you were in my shoes. To give a little more background I am in pre-med club, work as a retractor holder at the local hospital, and have not done any shadowing. :meanie: I would like to become a family practice doc. and come back to my home town of 3,500. If there are any spelling errors I am sorry.

You don't seem to be in a bad situation at all. Your major means literally nothing as long as you do well enough in your science classes and have taken all of the necessary pre-reqs. Just try to keep your grades as high as possible for now on and study your a$$ off for the MCAT. In my opinion (others may disagree), get your BS/BA and save the $$ you would have spent on an extra semester. The hospital volunteering is a good start but it is highly advisable to get some shadowing experience (and hopefully a good letter of reccommendation out of it). Going to a DO school is a fantastic route for becoming a family practice doc. Good luck w/ the MCAT and the application process.

I wouldn't change my major if I were you. It won't affect your application, and may likely be seen as a negative.

Your grades are solid and your GPA is good. Have you considered holding off and taking the August MCAT? I personally thought it was much easier to have the summer to study for the exam than to try to study for it against my classes - and your classload is not a particularly easy one.

The reason I was going to take the April MCAT is because I figured if I did not do well then I could retake the test in August.

I dont think you should take the mcat if you are not fullly prepared because the medical schools can see all the scores you get..so if you walk in winging it and get like a 19, and then you retake and get like a 29..that would seem a little fishy..and plus why would you want to waste 200 bux and a whole day of your time..

my advice..study ur ass off for the spring mcat.and do not retake...otherwise you'll have wasted your summer on the mcat..
