I AP'ed out of calc 1 and 2, but was told by my premed advisor that I should really take some sort of math with the college, so I took finite mathematics, which is basically what art majors take. I'll also be taking psychological statistics (under the pyschology department). Just want to make sure either the AP cred, the easy math, or the psych stats will satisfy what I need.

Thanks.

You are probably fine, depending on whether they count psych stats as stats - it might not be because psych courses aren't actually in the BCPM (with M being math).

Thanks. It sounds like you're implying that stats is a prereq at a lot of med schools - is this the case? Or am I misinterpreting what you wrote?

Like you I took AP Calc 1 and 2 in high school. I had no problems getting in.

I think it might be at a few, but if memory serves, many of them are calc 1 and then calc 2 OR stats. But that is just off the top of my head.

I think there are some med schools that won't accept AP credit. So even if you got 5 on AP calc AB/BC, you still have to take a year of math in college.

A couple of schools have stats as a prereq (not many). But what I really meant was that most med schools require a year of either math (which can include statistics if offered by the math department), or even calculus, and some places require the prereqs not to be via AP credit. So having taking a stats class by the math department might count as a semester of math at some places, but taking a stats class by the psych department might not. I'd check with the schools.

Very important. I'd suggest you look up pre-req requirements of some schools you're planning on attending, just to be sure. This issue came back to bite me, n now i'll have to take an online math class just to fulfill the requirements 🙁

Most schools need a full year of college math? I thought only a semesters worth of say Calculus 1 was recommended and even then most schools didn't care much if you didn't have it.

I didnt take one math class in undergrad due to AB Calc BC credit.
I think schools want Calc 1 for applicants. That can be either a 1 semester accelerated course, or a 2 semester course that's not as quick. I should've taken the slower one, and boosted my cGPA and science GPA...
