Hey guys, just a quick question,
I have been told that on the MCAT, in terms of organic chem, only Orgo I is covered and that there isn't really anything from Orgo II. I was hoping that someone here could confirm whether or not this is the case.

I plan on taking the MCATS late this summer and in terms of sciences I have only taken Bio I and II, Physics I and II, and Gen Chem I and II. It was my plan to teach myself Orgo (with a tutor) this summer, so that I could then take the MCATS later this summer. I was initially planning on learning Orgo I and II, but if it is indeed the case that only Orgo I is represented on the MCATS, then it would seem wiser for me to focus only on Orgo I this summer so I can best prepare for the MCATS. What do you guys think?

Also, will I need to know the material covered in Orgo labs in order to do well on the MCATS. I was just planning on covering the Orgo lecture/textbook material, but it just occurred to me that I might need to know the lab material for Orgo....do I? Thanks-SH

I'd recommend waiting until you've at least taken a classroom and lab course for organic I or II. You do need to understand lab techniques, especially since many passages are an explanation of an experiment.

You might get by without having taken II, but there are definitely reactions from II on the test.

Orgo II is fair game. The Bio Sciences topic lists carbonyls, carboxyls, amines, alpha-ketos, biomolecules.

Unless you're willing to do self-study.
