I got an email from Roger Corbman, dated July 24th, to schedule an interview at TU-NV. I called him the next day, and he said due to some computer issues, they would not be able to schedule interviews at the time, and to call back in mid-August to set one up.

I talked to Mr.Corbman today....and Yes--what he told me is the same info you got. He said to email or call him back anytime after mid-august to set up the interview. They will start the actual interviews sept. 20 and on. 👍

Last I remember they are not refundable. Most DO schools, the deposit is non-refundable.

The $2000 deposit is due within two weeks of your acceptance and is not refundable. A 2nd deposit of $1000 is due May 15th and is refundable. All of it is applied to your first semester tuition.

I interviewed at Touro for this past cycle and got in...the place is one huge building and overall is very nice inside. The interview is laid back for the most part, be able to address any discrepancies in your application and be able to convey your intererst in becoming an osteopathic physician. Other then that, if you really are interested in Touro, show them why and ask lots of questions during and after your interview. Vegas is awesome and and one of the best places to go into medicine...very fast growing community. Anyways, good luck on the interview! 🙂

I chose an early interview because Touro Nevada was my 2nd choice... I got in and sent my $2,000 then got into my 1st choice (COMP). Kissed that $2,000 goodbye but I'm glad I gave it to Touro because they really do invest in the school and their students. Regarding student hapiness, I still keep in touch with a lot of the students there and they're all pretty happy. We were just partying at the Hard Rock last week.

Location was very important to me... I'm from L.A. and it's just a 4 hour flight / 45 minute flight to family. Vegas is a great place to live... you'll be up late studying and something is always open if you want to eat or just study somewhere than home. And you are 20 minutes from the most happening city in the U.S. for post-exam stress relief. Touro in Mare Island has a very impressive match list, and the Nevada campus had to duplicate their curriculum for accreditation so I figure their board scores won't be far off. The administration at Touro is also very impressive and it seems like they work with you to beat the system, as opposed to being part of the system like other medical schools. You also get a ton of days off for Jewish holidays and a weekend off after block exams to actually balance your life with what you please.

...I've never been to Vegas either so I am definitely going to stay a few days after the interview to check out the town. I'm excited!

That's a fantastic attitude to have. I do the Q&A a lot and I always ask people if they're going to be doing anything while they're I town. It shocks me how many people don't take the opportunity to see the city. That was the highlight of interviewing for me. I went and played on the strip at Touro, went to see Niagara Falls at LECOM, etc. You're there anyway, you might as well go out and have some fun!

I'm also going to be there on Sept. 18th. I'm excited and Roger Corbman seems like a great guy. He was joking about how nervous him and the staff will be for their first day of interviews and it just makes you feel better.

Also, I know this has been tossed around a lot but could someone (a current student) give me all of the cons to the school. Interviewing so early, I would hate to throw down the $2G and find I don't like the place once school starts.

alright so i've scheduled my interview for the 23rd of Oct (no relevance to my earlier post 😳 ), I wanted the second or third week of OCT but due to an AOA conference and the school's Fall break, those weeks weren't available. It was either the 3rd or the 23rd or 24th. I figure it would be nice to get it over with on Monday and spend a few days afterwards in the city while I'm there. I may or may not find a travel buddy but in any case, if there are any fellow SDN'ers that will be in Vegas that week please feel free to PM me and maybe we can check out the town together.

I hope the weather will be nice by then 🙂

P.S. has anyone considered winning the deposit money at the casinos?? haha i know the answer is YES

Yeah, the 2K deposit is pretty steep. I scheduled Touro-NV as my last interview since I knew it was expensive. For those who are apprehensive, you may want to schedule this interview after your top picks but not tooooo late.

Additionally, Roger is pretty flexible about the deposit and let him know if you have any trouble or need more time. He will let you know what can be done.

As Kubed said, also plan to explore Vegas if you've never been. It's loads of fun.

how late did you interview after your interview offer? Do you remember around what dates?

Well, I guess it was a little different for me since I'm in the inaugural class. Touro-Nevada did not start interviewing for the c/o 2008 until January 2004 and I interviewed in April 2004. I think they stopped interviewing the first week of June at that time (I'm not really sure). When I look back to the time I interviewed, all my interviews were late...I'd say I started interviewing in early-mid March to mid April with TUN being my last.

So, if you schedule all your other interviews before Dec. you could then schedule TUN in Dec. I don't think Dec is late at all...neither is Jan...those dates are more in the middle of interview season. But remember, it's all rolling admissions so keep in touch with Roger...you could ask how many spots in the incoming class and how many are still available.

Just to clear a little something up---

You interview, you get a decision two weeks (at the most) from your interview date, and then the 2K is due two weeks after that (officially).

So, you could theoretically interview anytime in between those four weeks and not worry about having to cut Touro a check.

I am only speaking of what happened the past cycle at the Nevada campus, but, if you need a little more time, ROger may be able to accommodate you. Officially, you have 2 weeks but Roger may be able to do something for you.
