do not go to NYU...heard horror stories from two of my close friends who went there....go anywhere else...if its the only school you got into.....consider taking a year off and reapplying elsewhere 😱 😱

I'm curious. Are you serious? Why?

whatevah u do, do not post blanket statements without backing them up with more info. if you are going to do that post anywhere else ......even if it is the only post u make...consider not posting forawhile and then reposting... hehe

oops now that i have to actually respond to this thread, i would like to say that i think the south-east side of manhattan rocks and that nyu is awesome to have that spot! my sis now lives in that location and i wish i went to nyu so i could visit her more easliy.

so i am guessing that the horror stories u heard do not involve location. why don't u let us all know about them so i can stop speculating for the rest of us.

oh I heard stories too.....don't go there....

If you really want us to believe your 'stories' why don't you share some of them? What problems have you heard about specifically?

Just like quickfix said, its pretty much a waste of time to make blanket statements and not to back it up with examples or facts.

ohsally is a newbie, so give'em a chance to explain his/her statement..

There are plenty of dentists on the forums at www.dentaltown.com who graduated from NYUCD.

Those looking for opinions on the school would do well to ask those NYUCD alumni rather than listen to some anonymous poster who heard a rumor from his sister's uncle's tailor's mailman's dog's groomer's friend. 😛

Between a newbie anonymous poster spewing common misconceptions and real NYUCD alumni who has been there, done that, and gotten the T-shirt, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out who is the more credible source. Heh.

NYU is a superior match for some students, and a far worse match for other students. It is going to depend on the student and their likes/dislikes to determine whether or not NYU is for them. Huge class sizes, lots of foreign dentists, etc. are things that come into play.

I know many students who thrived at NYU and loved their time there, and I know many students who have disliked everything about NYU and couldn't wait to graduate so that they could proceed to make fun of the school and it's shoddy educational system.

Both sides have valid points from where they stand, and I would encourage all prospective applicants to really research the school through interviews, tours, and speaking with graduates/students prior to making any judgement on the school. Like I said, some of the things that people consider to be negatives are HUGE positives for other students.

To each his own, and there isn't anything wrong with that! 🙂

As a big advocate of DentalTown, I concur with Tom's statement...

Yo Tom Hung, are you related to William Hung, the American Idol "She Bangs" guy?

Ahh yes, SHAWNNY is apparently from the part of town where the total population of asians is close to 10 and all mysteriously appear to be interbreeding.

Just playing. 😉

What gave you that idea? You haven't even heard me sing.

At least I got a lucrative day job to fall back on.

DentalTown, like SDN, is severly flooded with a limited amount of opinions. 95% of the posts are from 10% of the population (once again, like SDN)--so things posted there still need to be taken with a grain of salt.

And remember, nearly 100% of those 10% of members have some sort of CE course they are selling. They'd be foolish for their posted opinions not to pave the way for somebody to take their CE course.

OP, I'm just curious why your friends didn't like NYU. Was it because there wasn't a lot of student support? Did the instructors take them to the back room and beat them? I'm just wondering what their complaints are because I'm guessing that their complaints are likely to be the same as many dental students at every dental school...unless of course, they're actually getting beaten.
