Just started the application. Are the secondaries included with the new 2018 AADSAS application?

The first thing that I did was select the schools I will be applying to. There is now a new section called "Program Materials" that has a list of all the schools I want to apply to, information about that school, and questions they want answered (which is very similar to a secondary). My question is: does anyone know if this counts as the secondary application for these schools? I'm just curious, because I'll be saving a lot of money haha.

Yes, I think it does... But looks like each school is still going to charge you a fee.

Well that sucks! But it also saves a lot of time, so there's that I guess.

So when I fill out the application, I should also fill out those new secondaries before I submit? Or will the schools send me those later?

Also wondering the same!

Should I call them tomorrow and ask?
Just found this in the AADSAS guide:

Is the Program Materials section required?
Yes, you must complete this section in order to submit the ADEA AADSAS application. Some questions, though, will be optional depending on the dental school’s selection.

Yes, in order to submit an application to a specific school, you must complete the questions in the Program Materials section for that school (if they chose to have additional questions). Some schools are using the Program Materials section to put up their Supplemental Questions and those would have to be filled out before you can submit your app to that school.

do you have to sign the transcript request form before we submit it to registrar?

This is what ADEA says

"This is a new section of the ADEA AADSAS application which includes profiles created by each dental school. Each profile provides information regarding a dental school’s program and includes tips on how to be a successful applicant. Each profile has three sections: The home page, questions and prerequisites. To view a school’s profile in “Program Materials,” an applicant must first select the school in the “Add Programs” section of the application. Applicants should carefully review each school’s requirements.

Home: This tab contains basic information about the selected dental school including deadline, start term, and other important, program-specific information.

Questions: This tab may or may not be available, depending on the selections of each dental school. If a program has opted to add program specific questions, these questions may be optional or required. Questions regarding this section should be directed to the dental school.

Prerequisites: This tab may or may not be available, depending on the selections of each dental school. If it is available, applicants will be given a list of the school’s prerequisite course requirements and asked to designate which courses have been taken or are planned which fulfill the requirements. Applicants must first complete the Transcript Entry section before courses can be selected as prerequisites.

Entering these courses does not mean an applicant has met the school’s prerequisite requirements. Instead, the school is asking applicants to self-identify courses for their review. If an applicant has any questions regarding what the program will accept regarding these prerequisites, please contact the program directly.
Applicants can learn more about prerequisites required by each dental school in the 2017-2018 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools."

I would recommend checking school's websites as well because some may require an additional secondary application.. yes, that means submission of the AADSAS app, school-specific AADSAS questions, and school-specific secondary app.

And remember, some secondary's will be only sent out to qualified individuals while others should be filled out regardless of one's credentials + payment of fee.

Does this mean we can only submit the AADSAS application once we have fully completed the Program Materials section for all schools we are applying to?

I believe it depends on the dental school! For some schools, the program material questions are the supplemental application while other schools have the supplemental listed on their website or send it later to invited applicants. Or at least thats how it appeared in the 2017-2018 ADEA Official Guide to Dental Schools.

Do we get charged for this during the application?

Are you referring to the additional supplementals? I haven't submitted yet but I believe they do cost additional fees. My friend who applied last year said each school's supplementals costed her an extra $50-200

This whole secondary app included in primary app is going to put a bind in the whole early applying scheme...

For real. These things are taking so long to fill out

Yup but everyone has to do them. In past years applying early meant applying by the end of June or early July. I'm sure you'll be able to finish all of this by then
