Hi guys,

I recently interviewed at a school that only accepts updates if you've been invited to interview. My update included a few papers that have been published/accepted for publication over the past year. I found out over the weekend that another paper I co-authored just got accepted for publication and just needs a few very minor revisions before we get the proofs. Is it OK to submit another update letter this soon? The admissions team said we will have acceptance/WL/rejection decisions in another week or two, so I might be able to get this to them in time (and for what it's worth, this is a school I'd have a high likelihood of attending if accepted).

If you do say "yes" to me submitting the update, do you think I need to do any explaining of my roles for the study, or should I just briefly say "here's a pub, please add it to my file" (in a fancier way of course).

Any advice appreciated, specifically if you have admissions experience. Thank you

What are you going to say? "Hey I already sent an update letter that included a few papers that have been published but I forgot to mention that I have one more?" you already said that you included a few papers that are or will be published, do you really think that THIS paper you forgot to mention is going to make the difference? I think you should just relax

I'm quite calm actually, but anyways...

No, I don't expect this paper to make "the difference" regarding an acceptance, but I do expect it to be marginally helpful for my file at the very least. The overwhelming majority of people on here state that a pub is well-worthy of an update, so I want to get a better idea if it's worth doing in this particular case. Why in particular do you think it's not worth putting my best foot forward before a decision is made? I'd genuinely like to know because it could influence my decision. Thanks

Put yourself in the shoes of the person reading your update letters. What would be your impression of someone that just wrote an update letter, sent you another one with a few sentences that stated "oh wait by the way I forgot to mention I have another publication coming out soon"? (Obviously much better phrased but will be read like this regardless)To be honest if it were me I would be quite annoyed and it ultimately would decrease your chances if it was me. Just my two cents. At the end of the day it's your decision and I'm just providing input

I would agree with you if I actually forgot something, but in fact this paper just got accepted a few days ago. Are you taking this into account?

How significant is the authorship? I would say if you will be hearing within the next week or so anyway about a waitlist, maybe save it and bundle with LOI if you get waitlisted?
