JUST SUBMITTED!!!! when am i on track for secondaries and such probably?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
realistically, you probably won't be verified till late August at the earliest. which means you will start receiving secondaries early/mid september

shouldn't it only take 4-6 weeks? isnt that still before september?

Depends on the schools you apply to. Some schools send out secondaries the day you get verified, others take a few more days to get to you.

You submitted during the peak period of the cycle, it will likely take longer than 4-6 weeks.

This. Sometimes it takes longer than a few days as well .....

isn't peak mid july? slash will this likley mean i wont have interviews till second semester?

peak is mid-july. but keep in mind they still haven't finished verifying people who submitted the second day

does this mean anyone who has submitted now is epically screwed for interviews? i just dont understand how this whole thing works considering they accept applications till august. its mindblowing.

I just want to point out that AMCAS has said on their twitter feed that they plan to keep all verification times within 6 weeks, as per the agreement we signed with them. I don't think it will end up being longer than this regardless of when submitted. Things do seem to be picking up, even if a lot slower than we hoped for.

I don't want to hijack this thread

But when would be the latest time (by SDN standards) that one could submit and still be good?

feel free to hijack. we are all worried/ in the same boat.

I took the June 20th MCAT (retake) and I submitted my AMCAS on the 4rth. ALso my letters aren't in yet but will be sometime mid-July.

I have a list of schools I want to apply to depending on my retake score. I applied only to 1 school and then I will add the rest later. Should I just add in the ones that don't screen now so that I save time and avoid the delay between verification and receiving secondaries? Or does it not matter, since I will probably not receive much till verification aka late Aug?

Just like how they planned to open on June 5th? Or how they planned to delay primary submissions to schools until July 5th at the earliest?

Is late August a terribly late time to have your application verified by? I thought we were still within the first 50% of eventual applicants submitted.

Yes, but, we never signed an agreement about that. I really do think they'll keep this promise. Either way, thinking that is keeping me sane 🙂

I submitted mine a couple of days ago as well. I don't see how submitting at this time in the current cycle is any worse than in previous cycles. Regardless of how fast AMCAS is verifying, there is about the same percentage of people who submitted earlier and the same percentage that will submit later. Medical schools will review everybody who submitted even if the process takes longer. It's not like because the process takes so long, the schools will be forced to admit relatively more people among earlier applicants than in previous years.

Same boat.

I submitted AMCAS on 6/27 and am a bit concerned that I may have put my application at a disadvantage, especially seeing as how some people are already complete at some schools.

Not sure why so many people are freaking out about whether they are at a disadvantage or not after they've submitted it.

You've already submitted it. Stop freaking yourself out since you can't do anything about it anymore, and look towards the future. Start working on secondaries if you haven't yet.

This. I don't think people realize this. AMCAS hasn't received any more applications than last year at this point. They make take longer to verify but its taking everyone longer to verify.

People shouldn't be worried about AMCAS, it's up to the schools to realize that applications are trickling in slower than usual and to stretch out the time that they look at apps.

If the schools are on a timetable (e.g. interview/accept 80% of class by january) than the applications that come in later will have a disadvantage. But if the entire process is shifted later then there isn't any reason to really worry.
