Hello,

So I just got out of testing center.

PAT 19
RC 20
GC 21
OC 20
Bio 19
TS 20
AA 20


I will be applying broadly to many private schools.
NYU or Tufts is my top choice.
I live in Illinois, fyi.
Should I apply in June with this score (cuz this score wouldn’t look bad on my app..i guess) and may be retake in June after I’m out of school?

That’s my goal. I’m taking BioChemistry and Orgo2 right now, so hopefully those classes will help me to score better.

It simply depends on you. If you were to retake this exam, you have to put in hundreds of hours and hope that the score is higher than your original. Keep in mind that most dental schools will be able to see both of your scores, meaning that the higher score (if on the 2nd exam) doesn't overwrite your original score. I noticed that you may want to retake the exam because of your G.P.A, but in my opinion, I would not retake it simply because your EC's are awesome. Many applicants do not have ECs like you and you can take that into your advantage during LOR and interviews, and make sure to devote a significant portion of your time to write a quality personal statement! Those two classes are going to help your DAT improve almost nothing. If you apply broadly and to many private schools, I think you're going to be safe with those stats as long as your EC's are in a solid place and you have some good observation and volunteering hours.

If you do choose to take the DAT again and haven't used Bootcamp and Destroyer to study for your first DAT I would highly recommend using them this time around, they will give you that extra point or two you are looking for.

I used Bootcamp and Destroyer and only studied for four weeks and I was scoring a little higher, around 22-23 in practices and feel like I can do better if I do it again.. I feel like higher DAT raises the chance of acceptance.
Well, thanks for your thoughts though. I will probably decide in March or so.

You should be okay for Tufts provided everything else is in order. NYU is also not far off. If you're confident in a higher retake school, definitely do it.
