Before I say anything, I would like to thanks all of you guys for your help. You guys are great!!! spending your priceless time to help others.
Special thanks to Rezdawg, dragonj, hockeydentist, Sprgrover, ems5184 and many more...
My reviews about DAT:
Science and QR sections were easier than kaplan or topscore. PAT was difficult (there was a weird question in cube section... couple of the cubes were hanging in the air).
I used Kaplan's book, my class notes, Barron's and topscore's CD.
I studied for three weeks. Six to eight hours a day.
I took my DAT today in Seattle.
AA 19
PAT 18
QR 24
RC 14 😱 (I don't know what happened...may be I was too tired)
BIO 19
GC 18
OC 19 (very happy!!! without taking Organic Chem class)
TS 19

Total GPA : 3.60
BCP : 3.72
Science : 3.61
NonScience: 3.36

I got Mechanical engineering Degree from India. Now I am taking all the prerequisites (first two years) in BC Canada.
I applied to NYU, Boston, Tufts and UOP.
Anybody have any advice? will the RC score hurt my chance of interview?
many thanks in advance

I just read an article that shows the only part of the DAT that is a consistently significant indicator of the Part 1 boards is the RC section. 😕

Article from JDE

I have heard many times on this board that QR is not that important, but have not heard the same concerning the RC part. Perhaps this is because admissions committees are familiar with this research, in which case you might want to consider taking the DAT over. I suppose it all depends on which schools you are applying to. Over all, though, you have good scores.

Anyone else have an opinion on the importance of the RC section?

Isd121, Good luck with everything. :luck:

how did u attempt the RC, by creating a template with phrases or keywords from each paragraph or reading the first question (or two) and start reading the passage, etc...

overall good scores isd, i would recommend calling a couple schools and just double check that the rc score is alright. your gpa is great, so i would think you should be ok. good luck.

Hi drusier,
I didn't create a template. I just read the first paragraph and couple lines of all other paragraphs then went to questions. some of the questions were tricky. 😕 I had to search for answers. As a result, I ran out of time. I think I should read the whole article first and then attempt the questions.
🙁

I can tell you that UOP is a no go. But the others should give you some love! 😍

Hi predentchick,
You are right UOP required min 16 in any section of DAT. I am going to call NYU on Tuesday. My brother is a dentist. He got his degree from NYU... that
is a positive point for me  . Or I will write DAT again.
Thanks for reply.

Your other scores aren't bad at all. Congratulations! I would seriously consider writing the DAT again as I think you should wait and see what the other schools come back and say. The goal is to get an interview, make them fall in love with you, and matriculate in somewhere. I think you are capable of it and don't see any need for you to jump through the flaming hoop that is the DAT for a second time. Best of luck! 👍
