sup guys,

these are my stats. not sure if i should retake b/c of math or just roll with it and hope for the best...

BIO 23 (heavy on genetics and embryology)
G CHEM 19 (at least 8 full calculations!!!)
OCHEM 21 (easy but spent too much time on gen chem...)
TOT SCI 21
PAT 18 (tough keyholes + ortographic projections, everything else ok)
RC 21 (neurotransmitters, something about microeconomics??? and one
on prosthodontic disorders)
QR 13 (what the hell...)

AA 20

GPA 3.55
Science/post bac GPA 3.68

what should i do????
thanks

I think you should retake it if you can. If you did really well in all your sections except for math, it would be ok especially if you do well in math in term of GPA. But a 17 in PAT is not very competitive in addtition to the 13 in math. I think you should contact the schools and ask them just to be sure because your GPA is high. But if I was you, I'd retake it.

I hate to say this, but re-take your DAT. A 13 is a very low score, despite it being a quant analysis score, and a lot of dental schools have cut-off scores.

Just suggesting this to be on the safe side.

Good luck bud.

hmm... should i take my DAT over too? my pat is low... 17.. but i did decently well on the AA part.. and i want to go to a good school.. but im worried that i will do worse on the AA part... anyone?

mark,

if you have the time and energy to go through it all over again, then i guess you can give it another go. Though honestly for me the past few months have been less than desirable and i am not sure if i would want to go through that again. your scores in other sections are good... just keep in mind that if you dont do so well in the other parts of the dat the second time through you will really be screwing yourself over.

for now, i suggest calling up a few schools and see what they say. if your grades in calc, satistics or other math classes are good, make sure you point that out to them. just go w/ what they recommend.

true, its good to be safe, but check the parameters before you send out troops.

is it just me or does all this stress and anxiety seem a bit too much just to get into schools? i understand dental school will be full of stress every step of the way, i have no issues with that, in fact i am more than ready to take that on. but getting premature white hairs just to get in? 👎 it's getting a bit out of hand, like the expected dat avg for this cycle, 19.1?!! 😕
and here we are like moths to a flame....

(sorry for the mini rant, just having a pretty rough day..)

I am in the same boat I think, but I have a question:

First of all, just took it today, these are my scores, I'll do the good first.

AA 22 (98.7%)

Tot Sci 20 (93.1%)
Org 19 (83.5%)
GChem 21 (92.4%)
Bio 20 (94.5%)
RC 27 (99.8%)
QR 22 (96.1%)
All so far so good, real good...until
Perceptual Ability 14 (30%)

So I blew it. I got behind, really behind, and lost track of time. I ended up putting C for my last 14 questions because of time. I wasn't even bad on my practice tests (usually around 18) so I know I can do the PAT I just got in a rut and took too long.

Anyways, I've read some of yall talking about cutoffs. This is my main question. Does anyone know if they are so strict with the cut off so as to drop someone with a 3.73 sci and overall gpa and a AA score of 22-98.7% , but below the cutoff for PAT? Is it too late to take it again (DEC) for this cycle? I was surprised that my otrocious 14 is still 30th percentile... sounds much better that way, haha. I guess all the high scores on here make us think everyone scores 20s. Well lemme know what yall think?

i've got a buddy who is in his 3rd year at a dental school. he took DAT once in august and then retook it in february. check with your schools and notify them of the retake and check with deadlines.

If you call the schools in CA, i believe all of them will tell you to retake on account of your below average PAT score. I have a friend who pulled almost identical DAT scores as you including the 14 PAT. every school told her to retake and pull at least a 15. of course, there are schools out there who do not care about the PAT such as Upenn. gl.

Hi Lancer,
YOU GOt a solid Sciences scores and your RC is off the chart. However, I'd say you should take it over. No school will accept a 14 on the PAT, not even for a minority ( NOt that you're a minority). Even if a school places low emphasis on the PAT, they still want at least a 15. And with this cycle being so gosh-darn competitive, a 17 is still already borderline.

Honestly, your scores in the sciences give me the confidence that you will not score lower if you choose to retake it. IT takes a certain level of comprehension in order to get those 20+. So if you continue your studying now which most like will be just reviewing, you will probably score higher.

In the meantime, contact the schools you applied to and see what they want you to do. If they tell you to take it over, they will likely give you a chance and wait for your new DAT cause your Sciences are solid.

Good luck!
