ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 Can you guess how pissed off I am? My dentist has taken well over 4 months to write the LOR...I keep nudging and nudging...but ALWAYS some kind of excuse! DAMN IT! I swear, I keep telling myself to not get pissed and just "let it be"...but I CAN'T! I swear my blood pressure has skyrocketed these past few weeks seeing that it's starting to get late! ARGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just want to tear him up to pieces and yet I'll have to act all nice and friendly the next time I come in!!!!

ideas:
1) any other dentists you could ask?

2) have you tried talking to someone on his staff to see what may really be going on or to see if they can help you in getting him on the ball?

3) here is a devious way to go 😳 (hey, i worked in corporate america and learned a thing or two): have you taken him a pre-thank-you gift to sweeten the pot? ---find out from his staff what he likes (coffee, fruit, candy, etc.) then take it by as a "thank you" as you drop off something you think he may find helpful to assist him in writing his letter (this is just a cover for the real reason you are there which is to drop off the "goodies"). he will most likely feel indebted to you which will hopefully speed up the process. you scratch my back i'll scratch yours 😉

Why don't you just ask one of the dentists that you have observed? If you were spending more time at the dentist's office then you could put more pressure on him. If he only knows you from check-ups and what not then I don't think that he knows you well enough to write a letter for you and he is probably stumped on what he should write. Just a suggestion.

The dentist I'm talking about IS the dentist I'm shadowing for...that's why I'm so pissed! I've basically worked for him FREE for the last 1.5 years and I can't believe he is so ungrateful as to not even write me a LOR on time...Like I said before on some other post, I'm gonna hi-tail my ass outta there as soon as he writes that letter...and i'm NOT gonna feel bad either!

p.s. thanks for the advice laelialudisia, but everyone in his staff hates his guts (I never knew why before but now I do...) so they don't know what he likes. Plus, 1.5 years of service is about all i'm willing to "give" him. No way in hell am I gonna spend more $ for that sorry excuse of a dentist

concider writing it yourself and having him sign it. sucks, sorry. hope it works out.

I get to vent too then...this is about my schools club.

SO I already graduated and was planning a wonderful year of rest and relaxation while working full time....no more stresses.

Then in August, I get a call from my former prehealth advisor who says the student who is supposed to coordinate (basically run the whole thing) Preventive Dentistry Course at our school has quit. She asks me to fill in despite not being a student...I say no, but when no one else will do it...I finally agree.

I find out that everything has changed...a brand new building and system has to be worked out for everything...I end up having to take days off work and come in on my other days off to do crap because no one else in the club or class is helping out.

Then the one person who I'm supposed to depend on to help out...the predental club president, turns out to be a complete newbie who can't get anything done right...still, he's suppose to be in charge of a few little things to relieve me of too much crap.

Then today the predental president quits...now I've got all sorts of crap that he was suppose to do that I now have to figure out how to do or the class is screwed...this is so f___ing stupid. I almost don't want a lot of the freakin' people at my school to get into dental school now...if they can't organize something as freakin simple as this club and keep their freakin' commitments, then scrrew'em...they don't deserve to be dentists!

that is ridiculous. if they can't get their **** together for a school club they SERIOUSLY shouldn't be worth wasting time on. their futures' are on the line - not yours. unless you still need to keep the relationship with your school on good terms (like just in case you don't get in this time, which i don't think is going to happen 😉) then i would suck it up. otherwise, hasta la vista!!

okay that TOTALLY sucks, and it goes w/o saying (but i'll say it anyway) that the guy is a total ahole. now i think he might/probably knows how you feel and is holding this over your head so you'll stick around and provide more free labor.

the only thing i can think of now is to make the situation seem really urgent, if you haven't done this already. as in, tell him that X school will not review your app. until they receive his letter which means you can't interview and you are really sorry to bug him b/c you know how busy he his (lay it on thick), but the people you have spoken with at X school are adamant that they won't review your file or extend you an interview until your app.is complete which means his letter must be in their hands. then, ask him if he can have the letter completed by a certain date (you give him a date; don't let him pick the date). best of luck.:luck: :luck:

the only other thing i can think of is to try and get a letter from another dentist, as much as it may suck (a family dentist?)

I know exactly that feeling of being sucked into something so ******ed. If anyone of those ******s ask YOU for a letter later on (slim chance I suppose), just say yes and write the truth so that the ADCOMS can reject them! :meanie: (I know, I'm so evil) You'll be doing society a favor...

If you don't need to do it, just quit and explain to the advisor and say that you need some responsible and competent right-hand man to do the job

i agree. write it yourself and have him sign
