Just wondering?

Considering that my school had absolutely no idea how to teach it, Genetics was the most difficult

I thought biochem was the hardest 1st yr class. Most people felt it was either biochem or gross anatomy. 2nd year just sucked, in my opinion--it wasn't necessarily hard, but you have to do a lot more work to get a good grade.

Even though I have only had a few weeks immersion into medical school so far my opinion on the most difficult course would be physiology....maybe because I have a bias...I did o.k. in physics back in the day even though I wasn't that fond of it, but now it has come back to haunt me in physiology....renal physiology, cardio physiology....hard...pulmon physiology not tooo bad, but that's just my opinion!!

Hardest subject in Med School?

Biochem. I hate Biochem since I was in high school and the problem continued .....

I can spend 24/7 studing any subject in med school but when It comes to Bioche... Its Just :scared: 😱

I found that physio became easier to understand when it was presented in second year. Second year you'll learn physio in the context of pathophysio. I disliked first year physio- cAMP and all of the secondary messenger systems made me want to puke.

I hated biochem first year, and I still hate biochem. That course just sucks and is a pain in the arse since it's the sort of stuff that just doesn't stick in my head.

I agree with biochem...it was definitely the most time consuming as far as memorizing useless info. The class I hated the most though, was histology!

I didn't think Biochem was that difficult because I'd already taken Biochem as an undergrad (didn't everyone?). The hardest for me was definitely Gross Anatomy -- my brain refuses to remember anything without constant repetition, and there wasn't enough time in first year to remember all that. Physio was pretty easy for me, as it's a matter of learning concepts. Then you can just think through the concept during an exam rather than having to regurgitate facts.

for me it 's a toss up between pharmacology and pathology.. they are killing me :scared: 😕

After 1st year, I would have to say its a tie between genetics and micro/immuno, with pulmonary phys in a close second, and neuro in third. I think it has a lot to do with the way your school teaches a certain course. Some professors expect more from the students and/or teach worse than others.

And others can turn your life to hell when it comes to their subject ..... :scared:

One of our pathology professors keeps saying " Its important , belive me it will be one of your exam quistions ..... and this make all the student awake during his lecture

25% of your feeling depends on the PROFESSOR

Difficulty of any given subject depends on the faculty teaching it. Most research faculty couldn't teach their way out of being surrounded by gerbils with ADD. Thanks to the excellent faculty, I had EASY cellular physiology, renal pathophys, immunology, and neurobiology.

Anatomy and pharmacology are difficult because you have to memorize a lot and memorization skills are not developed in US schools at all. I spent the first half of my life in ex-USSR and we had to memorize poems and passages on a daily basis and recite them in front of the class. I aced both pharm and anatomy.
