Just wondering

I seriously doubt they would rank one of you highly and not rank the other highly simply because you come from the same medical school. I mean, if I put myself in a PD's shoes, I would want to rank everyone in the order that I would want them to be in my program and would not feel compelled to 'choose between' two candidates just because they completed medical school at the same institution. I suppose I would have to 'choose between' them in the sense that the system obligates me to rank one higher than the other; but, I would feel free to make both of them 'ranked to match' if that's where their candidacies naturally placed them.
It's pretty common. The year after I started my residency the new class had three people, half the class, all from the same med school (which was in a different state). They probably don't want to fill their class with people all from the same school, but I highly doubt they would be adverse to taking two.
It happens. Sometimes it's planned, & sometimes it's not. I know that my residency got 2 people from the same school. Both ranked the program high, but 1 of them was ranked a fair amount higher by the program.
I've seen a program take all but 1 of their residents from their own school, & this was a decent sized program (5-6 residents / year). Talk about favoritism.

There were a few consecutive years when almost all of columbias class was from Columbia. But that is in part due to the fact that Columbia is a strong problem with an elite medical school and people from mahattan aren't willing to move anywhere except California

I hope that's a typo 🙂 They indeed have a strong program, and although it's not on the best part of Manhattan, it's still Manhattan
yes program. Dumb auto-spell.
I just think I would be worried crapless that everyone seems to have ranked UCSF as #1 this year more than your your classmate ranked UCSF #1.
LOL. No kidding! My future doesn't look so bright right now. 🙄
So how did it turn out?
I didn't get it, but I'm very happy where I matched. I know in my heart it's a great fit for me.
I just wish my program were in that gorgeous Bay Area. 😍

Hey SerialSections: I was looking at your rank list...both UCSF and Stanford are great programs but are highly-sought after by applicnts. Don't feel too bad, especially this year's not exactly an easy year for the match with the rising competition. Good luck with residency.
