What do you guys think about the four volume set? Worth spending 500 bucks on the new edition when you've already got the 2005, just for a quick run through the latest material? I'm far enough in debt as it is, but this seems important enough to actually do. Anyone happen to have seen both and able to comment on the similarities/differences?

Any responses are much appreciated. :scared:

I know the differences between the 2005 and the 2006-2007 7-book series are large enough to warrant an upgrade. The major differences include better organization and additional charts and tables with necessary information that one would normally have to recreate on his or her own if they weren't there. Trust me, it saves a bunch of time to be able to find a table in there for you to memorize instead of wasting time writing it out.

Now I'm not sure about the 4-book series, but I would venture a guess and say the differences should parallel the 7-book series.

Oh, and the differences between the 2006-2007 and the 2008 7-book series are negligible, so that's something to keep in mind I guess.

FYI- The head Kaplan med adviser in NY when I signed up for Qreview said for the home study series (4 books) 2005 edition was very similar to the newer edition (blue cover) and suggested I save my money and buy the older ed from an upperclassmen. I followed his advice- and I have (somewhat to my surprise) found them very useful so far. Hope this helps.

I had the same question regarding the new Kaplan Home Study books. It was mentioned that the changes were minor...but anyone know exactly what changes were made? Was it just formatting?

I currently have the black 2005 editions (barely used 'em). I'm willing to get new ones even if there is a marginal improvement or update in content.

Thanks.

just wanted to bump this thread. i'm using a 2005 home study set. Do you guys think I should upgrade to the 08/09?

Also, has anyone out there compared the 7 bk series to the 4? Any thoughts?

Thank you!

I compared my black 05s to my roomie's teal 07s for 30mins-1hr looking for changes in the book. Nothing. Friggin Kaplan...

Tough to compare the 7 book series to the 4 book series because the 7 book series is "incomplete" until you listen to the lectures and annotate them. I think it just depends on if you prefer system approach vs subject approach. Or if you prefer reading a story vs being lectured too. 4 book is good for people that like systems and retain alot by reading.

I appreciate the response from Harrison. I am wondering if anyone else can confirm what he has said? The black books are so much cheaper and I would love to buy them, but I just feel hesitant before placing my order. Honestly though, I can't believe that there are not more people who have the same concerns who have something to contribute so far. Thanks in advance if anyone can help further.
