Hello all, having a problem with a small question in kaplans blue book on page 573 question 45.

The answer so they say, is D, the liver, but on page 570 in the passage paragraph 6 clearly gives it another answer, as the small intestine. Someone please clear up my confusion. Thank you

When I took this test, I put small intestine too but now I see why it's liver. It's really specific. In paragraph 6, it says that amino acids are "absorbed by the intestinal mucosa cells". Paragraph 7 also talks about absorbed amino acids. The key is that question 45 is asking for the site of amino acid degradation, not absorption. At the end of paragraph 7, it says "surplus amino acids are degraded in the liver and utilized as metabolic fuel"

What really threw me off for this is that in paragraph 5 it states "protein degradation and absorption occurs in the small intestine" but here, proteins are considered different from amino acids. The protein is degraded into amino acids which can be absorbed in the small intestine or sent to the liver for degradation.

Even though its making more sense to me now, i really hope they dont pull something like this on the actual exam, especially due to the short time we have. It would just be stupid to give something like that to the students.
