Is it really necessary to take Kaplan USMLE class? Is anyone didn't take the class but still do very well on USMLE? (>250) All My friends are taking the class, and I feel the peer pressure from them....But I strongly feel that I am the kind of person that need to study on my own, I can't image to go to class 8 hours a day for a month.
I am using Q bank, First Aid, Webpath, BRS, Road map and rapid review series to prepare for the board and studing everyday since January, is it sufficient? I really need to do well on the board, because I want to go into interventional Radiology.
Thanks for the advice!

ppl can definitely do well (> 250) w/o kaplan classes......there's definitely no rule that says u have to take the classes to ace step 1

I would however suggest adding a set of kaplan notes and usmleworld qbank to your prep..........given that you'll have already gone thru brs, roadmap and rapid review series, the kaplan notes will just be a review (but a good one nonetheless since they present material in a diff angle)

as for usmleworld...........well, its supposedly the best qbank out there......

good luck w/ IV Rads :)

ill elaborate more after my step..

but I was just at a Kaplan retreat at a hotel in Dallas that was 6-7 weeks long...

Every day every instructor ingrained into our heads that all we should ever be thinking about from now until the exam is... 240!

every day, they kept reminding us, it was a weird psychological brainwash.

I also have many many crazy Goljian stories (he came in for Path week)

So did he let you record him? How did the current Goljan audios come to be?

nope, and guess what... we all got searched!!!!

Yup, no cell phones no bags, and we were watched by administration at all times!!!!!

Also, he was a complete a-hole to our Kaplan class. He even gave a speech about how all nurses try to get with doctors!

So much drama, so many more stories!!! He's the man though, gave me great workout and supplementation advice.

Workout and supplement advice from Goljan. Sounds interesting. Care to share?

He mentioned that using as many anabolic steroids, human growth hormone injections, T3/T4, when cycled properly is the best way to supplement a good workout program... :D

HAHA just kidding. But seriously he was against most supplementation and advocated cutting red meat out of the diet and he was very very much into antioxidants especially Vitamin E which he claimed worked wonders on all aspects of health.

He also wears tight shirts and flexes

Now thats what I like to hear!

I admit, that bit of information assured me I had made the right decision to attend medical school.

He went on and on about how hard it is to stay faithful to one person when you are a physician and everyone's trying to get "a piece of you."

Yeah, goljan seems really inappropriate at times, but he's still hilarious and easy to follow. Who's Barone?
Oh, and what type of schedule did you set up for Step study?

Barrone's quite a character himself... he's like this California guy who hangs out with all the Los Angeles/Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons (from Dr. 90210)

Check out the Kaplan Path videos for some serious humor. He's A LOT more laid back then Goljan.
