Hi, I in the process of prepping for the DAT and wondering if anyone know of any discount or have any coupons for the Kaplan DAT course? Also if it's any good to take it. I'm still debating about it mainly due to the high cost. I'd really appreciate it if you guys can share any savings information with me! Thanks!

Im not sure but Kaplan courses are a few thousand dollars. If you are motivated enough and think you can study consistently for a long period of time by yourself, don't spend money on a class it is no good. Spend money on prep material, it will go a long way, you can focus on your weaknesses and spend time where you need it. Buy Destroyer, Chads vids, Cliff AP Bio, and a bunch of practice questions(Achiever, TopScore, Bootcamp, Crack Dat software). But you have to remember to not fall behind, make a schedule of what your going to do and stick to it.

In my opinion, Kaplan is a waste of money if you have the determination and motivation to study yourself or with some friends. Buy Chad's videos, watch every single chem, ochem and math video. Take detailed notes and use his outlines. Buy a used set of DAT Destroyer and Math destroyer books. Go through every problem and repeat if necessary. You can use the 2012 or 2013 version, the newest one doesn't matter IMO. Read Cliff's Bio and Ferallis' notes. Use Bootcamp or DAT Qvault for practice questions. Khan Academy videos are free on Youtube and are amazing for review. You can get all of the resources above for less than $400. Chad's has a 30% off coupon right now through Christmas. You can find the coupon code on his Facebook page.

Did the Kaplan course, but it was far too basic/vague for the DAT. Not worth the price IMO. I hit a 22 TS/22 AA with no section below a 20. I'd highly recommend self-study, it's less expensive and far more useful. DAT Destroyer/Math Destroyer, Chad's, Cliff's AP Bio, Crack PAT, Achiever, and DAT Bootcamp is more than enough to destroy the DAT and the sum of that is still a fraction of Kaplan.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm gonna study on my own first and see how that works out. In terms of buying prep books does it matter if I get the latest edition version or not? I'd like to save some money by buying the older edition. Is there a big difference and is it essential to study off the newest edition books like cliffsAP, destroyer, etc?

I actually think that the latest version of Cliff's AP is NOT a good one to get--they've changed things for the AP exam. I think you'd probably be fine getting a Destroyer that is a year old, but I wouldn't go too far beyond that.

The overall consensus is that Kaplan is definitely not worth it. Check out the breakdown thread (in my signature) if you haven't yet. You'll get opinions on every study tool out there.

I actually already have a copy of the DAT destroyer 2010 version...do you think this is sufficient? What sort of changes would the newer versions have? I really don't want to purchase the new destroyer if it's not significantly different...

They have a discount on their website. However, peolle are saying that it is better to go with other materials like CrackDAT, Destroyer or DATqvault.
