There are many threads where people have mentioned how after taking the Kaplan diagnostic test (the free one given online) their scores were very low but that after taking the Kaplan course they saw a major increase.

However, I haven't heard much from those who haven't taken a course and did self-study to improve their score. Has anyone improved 10+ points from their free Kaplan Diagnostic score by self-studying?

Is a prep course necessary to do well?

No one needs to spend thousands for a prep course. Yes, a great teacher and the camaraderie with your fellow students can help, but they aren't necessary. Courses are also good for providing a schedule, but I hope I've helped in that category. Beyond that, it's important to keep in mind that everyone basically studies on their own. When you're signed up for a course, you'll attend classes and maybe some 1-1 review sessions with the teacher, yet the bulk of your studying is by yourself.

I'm pretty sure SN2ed just copied and pasted his answer...because ITS BEEN POSTED ALREADY DO A SEARCH NEXT TIME.

btw SN2ed, we really need to publish your study schedule into something that looks spiffy, a downloadable PDF or something.

That's not exactly what I asked. I was asking for specific improvements from those who have improved from the kaplan diagnostic by self-studying, not whether one can improve in general by self-studying. The other thread mostly includes those who have taken the course and improved.

Thanks anyway.
