So I'm confused...D definitely makes sense but why not A? Isn't the study basically studying how the participants would act in those situations by recording their responses?




Or since the passage talks about how personality disorders are diagnosed incorrectly because of forcing social standards, should the answer be more than just about "situations"?

The cashier-scenario is setup for the study, but one of the two independent variables is the personality of the participant. We're more interested in seeing how the responses differ based on personality type than pure situation alone.

Group A is kind of like the control ~ baseline. Normal people respond to a situation. Then the Group B and C results are based on personality type responding to the same situation.
