A patient with renal failure has nephrons which lack the ability to actively secrete or reabsorb any substances. Which of the following actions will the patient’s kidney still be able to perform?

A. Removal of salt from the blood
B. Production of hypertonic urine
C. Production of hypotonic urine
D. Conservation of amino acids

The answer is A. My question is why is it that the glomerulus can filter salt from the blood, if the nephrons lack the ability to actively secrete and reabsorb any substances? Is the key to this question in the word 'active.' Does the glomerulus not actively filter but passively filter substances?

Thank you in advance.
