I have a question regarding the following question as presented in Kaplan's Homeostasis Chapter Quiz (Number 5).

Which of the following statements is FALSE?

A. ADH increases water reabsorption in the kidney

B. Aldosterone indirectly increases water reabsorption in the kidney

C. ADH acts directly on the proximal convoluted tubule

D. Aldosterone stimulates reabsorption of sodium from the collecting duct

Now, I realize that Answer C. is false, as ADH increases water permeability of the collecting duct. What I don't seem to understand is why Answer D is also false. I was under the impression that Aldosterone stimulates sodium reabsorption from the proximal convoluted tubule and not the collecting duct.

Can someone be kind enough to lend their two cents? I realize it may seem like a simple question, but it covers a high-yield fundamental concept that I hope to understand before test day.

Thank you in advance.

Aldosterone stimulates both the distal tubule and the collecting duct. I don't believe it has any effect on the proximal tubules.

Also, seriously? I doubt a question like this is on the MCAT.

Thank you. I actually meant to type distal tubule, rather than proximal. I guess my brain is a bit jumbled from all the studying.

Furthermore, why is that you doubt a question like this on the MCAT. Just curious.

Likely because aldosterone acts strongly on the DCT. It acts on the collecting ducts, but the effect isn't as strong. Some testing books don't even mention that aldosterone acts on the collecting ducts.
