Hello

I am dithering today is last day of Kaplan's latest 10% off day (IMG here so no AMA discount) as a single parent I can't really go for the full prep courses - but I really need something to force me to get through FA etc and explain concepts well, everything has been pushed out of my brain long ago..

quick poll decision - stuck between Kaplan HY and USMLERx First Aid Express vids?

DIT looks pretty good too but I am not really ready for that, I need something to go over the whole lot rather than a last minute prep

Thanks in advance for any opinions

Hello
...I really need something to force me to get through FA etc and explain concepts well, everything has been pushed out of my brain long ago..

I would also like to know how these compare. Its hard to find someone who has both and can evaluate both side by side.
I have subscribed to USMLE Express and have completed some of the organ systems. You mentioned that you wanted something that forces you get through FA and explain concepts well. Express does force you to get through FA, but it does a very poor job at explanation. I still find Express very helpful, but it is only useful if you have a pretty good understanding of the material before hand. It is a great way for me to review (key word = review, not learn new stuff). I give an example at the end. Anyone have experience with Kaplan HY?

I'm also getting back to med school material after a long break. The biggest challenge in study material is finding the balance between a resource that is too superficial vs overly detailed. If you haven't subscribed already, Pathoma is by far the best resource I've used so far. I cannot recommend it highly enough - it the perfect balance in being concise and comprehensive. It is only pathology though.

Example:
In USMLE express's coverage of anemia, they'll explain the TIBC, ferretin, iron saturation, iron levels for various anemias. They won't explain what TIBC is or what it means in any meaningful detail.

Thanks for the replies

Weirdly it's very hard to find reviews on these, thank you for the feedback on FA Express - maybe that is more what I need after all, I have serious problems studying, always have, so just to have structure there and be pushed through it might be more the key for me, rather than the teaching. agh I don't know! If I had more self discipline I'd clearly just sit down with FA and UWorld but I think the grounding is too shaky for that at the moment

I have already signed up for pathoma, and agree it is fantastic. I have been in a bit of a panic about this since last month so have wasted $$$ on various resources and every single book imaginable! *investing in the future... investing in the future.. ehem
However I am pretty much okay with pathology and the more clinical bits, it's just the long buried biochem, molecular, genetics etc torture that gives me sleepless nights...

Oooh I guess I might take the plunge for Kaplan HY if I can get the code to work .... I'll let you know my thoughts if I do

any other comments please let me know before I give Kaplan all my rent coffee money

thanks 🙂
