In kaplan pathology lecture notes it says IL-1 causes histamine release. Is this true?

Kaplan says many things in their endless lecture notes that are probably true and will never show up on our exam.

Given that they're both involved in the inflammatory response, I wouldn't doubt that most of the inflammatory mediators induce the release of others.

The exact answer to this question though, I'm not sure.

Generally, the IL-1 / TNF cascade and the histamine cascade are separate, since the first is generally inflammatory and leads to Th1 polarization, while the second is generally anaphylactic and is a result of either Th2 polarization or IgE cross-linking...

Neutrophil defensins induce histamine release from mast cells, but neutrophil themselves generally don't have histamine in the granules (some do: In a surprise finding, scientists have discovered that histamine, the inflammatory compound released during allergic reactions that causes runny nose, watery eyes, and wheezing, can be produced in large amounts in the lung by neutrophils, the white blood cells that are the major component of pus).
