Hey guys--
I know you have probably been asked this a million times but I couldn't find it when I tried doing a search. Anyhow, I have been taking the OChem practice tests and haven't been scoring too high. How similar is the real DAT? I heard the real thing for Ochem and Gchem is not that hard, but in what sense? Can someone please explain and also tell me how my Kaplan scores might compare to the real test? Its coming up VERY VERY soon. Thanks..

In general, Kaplan's Ochem, Gchem, Bio, Reading and Math are much harder than the real DAT. PAT is much harder in the real test.

Same for Barron and Topscore.

If you are referring to Kaplan's subject exams, then you are correct to think they are hard. Have you taken any of their full length DATs yet? When I finally got to them I realized how much easier they were than the subject exams.

I was scoring between 19-23 on the Kaplan and Topscore exams (full length ones) and ended up with a 27 in orgo on the DAT.

Just make sure you know SN and E reactions really well, they seemed to be what the real exam focused heavily on. Of course realize that it could have just been the version DAT i took in August. Any one else see the same thing?

DMD Hopeful: Yes, I am referring to their subject tests. I am planning on starting the full length exams this weekend. It was a relief to read your post because I have been getting 19's and I was worried. Thanks.

Any last minute advice is also greatly appreciated. This site has been so helpful. Thank you all so much!

I'd recommend coming back to this thread after you've got your 25-29 on the real one and realize how you were worrying about nothing! Kaplan is a just a number. All it is really there for is to learn from your mistakes.

Relax, you'll do great. But I've already told you that! 😉

Yes, I can testify to the fact that the real DAT's ochem section is easier than Kaplan's. On Kaplan, I averaged about 20, but on the real DAT i scored a 29.
You should review the Kaplan flashcards- they are an excellent review before the test. If you know the answer to all of them, I bet you'll score 20 or higher.
You'll do great, good luck! 👍

Thanks Eddie! 😉

I was getting 18-21 on kaplan and topscore Ochem practice. i got a 29 on the ochem dat. It does not hold a candle to kaplan or topscore in terms of content difficulty.

I was getting 18-20 on Kaplan and scored 25 on DAT.
