Hey guys,

Im in a bit of a bind here. I had originally planned on taking the Kaplan classroom course but they have already started and the other ones in my area begin too late. There is, however, one class relatively near to me that began a few days ago. I would have to make up the diagnostic and the first missed class. I would also have to make up 2 other classes that I would miss due to schedule conflicts. I was therefore thinking about taking the online course instead but I'm worried that it doesnt have that potentially helpful interactive component that the classroom course has.
With that said, please help me make a decision by telling me about your experiences with both the classroom and the online courses and what you thought about them...The good and the bad....

Thanks for your help!!

Neither save your thousand dollars. Buy the blue book and get the practice test off of someone on here.(PM me) took the class it was a huge waste of money and time. and get achiever. if your appplying this cycle that class is going to take three months its a little late by then.

Thanks for your thoughts. I understand that for some people Kaplan is a big waste of time, but I also know that some people do benefit from it - and think I am one of those people. I'm willing to put down a grand on the off chance that it will help me. I dont plan on applying for this cycle - Im instead going for a postbacc program first. I just need to have the DATs done before February...

Any additional help would be great!

I have taken the Kaplan class and it is 100% waste of time. I was actually teaching the instructors a couple of things!!!

My advice is to get study materials on your own, and use your text books for supplemental stuff- after all they are good for something. Use Kaplan, Shaums, topscore, achiever, and destroyer. I guarantee after all that, you will be more than prepared...

Btw, what post bacc you going to?

I agree the Kaplan class is a waste of money. They just read 100% out of the outline book. Just get the Kaplan book and understand it and you will have saved yourself 1k.

Did you guys seriously think the Kaplan class was wholly and completely a waste of time? Maybe I'm the odd case, but I found it useful. I hadn't taken gen bio since high school, so the review there was really helpful for me. Plus I felt that they had some interesting PAT strategies that I wouldn't have thought of myself. But I think taking the Kaplan course depends on how much you need to review. If you feel pretty solid on your own, save your money. But if you feel shaky, then the class can't hurt.

im taking the class right now, and yes during lecture, they go over a lot of stuff that im just like come on....this is so basic and i couldve done this on my own, but at the same time...if i werent taking the class, i would have a hard time motivating myself to study. so in a way, the class gives you structure and motivation to get your studying done. if not, you just have this thick book that looks so intimidating cause its so huge and you dont know where to begin. also the online stuff for kaplan is pretty nice too.

It depends on who you are as a person. If you like structure and you learn better from class, then Kaplan is the way to go. However, if you like and learn better on your own, then study from the Kaplan book, DAT achiever, Topscore and maybe Schaum's (I used this too, but I feel that there's too much detail for the limited amount of time). You could also take Kaplan's online course, which has the lessons in video format online (you could view these at any time) and practice exams, however, this can also be expensive. I also used Audiolearn DAT, which I felt was helpful b/c I commute a lot: some people though find it too basic, however, it helped to have the concepts repeated again and again.

I heard that kaplan course is a big waste of money. I m gonna save my $1000for playstation3 and xbox360 😀

I will attend it if there is a hot girl in a class even if it means to spend $2000 😍

take the class for the same reason as lilchinoboy and the post above me. had some cute girls in mine which made the boring parts of class a little more bearable. i'd say take it, it's good motivation to study, and the repitition and online resources will really help you remember the facts.

I took the online version of the class and found it very helpful (plus its a little cheaper than the classroom version). Yes, you can learn this stuff on your own, but there is a huge benefit to having a class with everything set up for you that focuses on the things you need to know and provides a structured environment to learn. If you think you can do well without the class - then save your self the thousand bucks. Yes, it sucks to spend that much, but if it gets you the score you want/need, then its worth it. For me, it was definitly worth it. Also, it says its a hundred bucks off right now if you sign up before the end of september.

Kaplan DAT Classes

Thanks guys. I think I'm leaning towards the online course for now. Anyone have any experiences with both the online and the classroom? How did they compare?

Thanks again!
