So, I plan on taking the DAT in or around May (basically after the second semester this year, to get organic out of the way), so I have some time. I don't have many classes right now, because I have no gen eds left, so I have some free time and I decided to start practicing here and there until it gets closer when I will study more intensely.

I have been monitoring this site for a while now, and have seen what are the best study guides according to others. I have bought the Kaplan book, the Destroyer, and Crack PAT as well as the AP Bio book in anticipation of my hardcore studying later.

For now I decided to start studying the PAT and really get the hang of that. I took the first practice test in the Kaplan book for the PAT recently.

THE QUESTION (for those that don't want to read the back story):

How accurate is the Kaplan tests in difficult to the actual DAT? I got a 22 on my first practice test for the PAT, and I need a minimum of 18 for my dental program.

I took both the Kaplan in-class course and the online one. The class was good for giving you tips, but the actual PAT material is entirely waaayyy to easy, especially angles and pattern folding. Crack the DAT PAT is all you need. If you can practice those and score well, you'll be set for the PAT section. You'll need to develop a good strategy for TFE and pattern folding though, like line/event counting for TFE. CDP all the way! Don't even bother with kaplan's PAT stuff.

Thanks for the info. I will focus more on the Destroyer and CDP. I keep hearing things about how broad the Bio section is. The stuff I DO know, I know well, but I'll only have Evolutionary, Cell, Physiology, and Biochem Bio classes under my belt before I take the DAT. Do you know what other topics I should focus on for the Bio section?

And it's nice to see a fellow Pre-dental student who likes RvB. xD

You need to focus on ecology, embryology, molecular genetics and cell bio. They love those topics. CDP and Destroyer will prepare you if you know them well (I did every CDP test in the Ace edition and did every section of Destroyer 3x).

Glad to see someone still remembers RvB too! I've been playing Reach ever since I finished my DAT on the 4th. So good!

I second this.

Thanks for the input guys, and about the only thing I don't know in the Bio is embryology. Or that well at least. Destroyer and CDP it is. As well as AP Bio for all the Bio stuff I don't know.
