hello everybody, i have some quick questions for those people who have already taken the PCAT and used Kaplan as one of their study sources.

For the inorganic chemistry section, is it enough just studying the chemistry section from the kaplan review book? i took chem 1 and 2 last year but i didnt realli learn anything because my teacher didnt teach us beside reading the book ourself.

and for the biology section, i didnt learn any human anatomy and i never taken the human anatomy class so is it enough just by learning everything from the kaplan book about biology?

i have been told by many people that if i learn everything from the kaplan book on the biology and inorganic chemistry section i should be fine. but when i went through the material it seems easy therefore i began to panic and thinking that this is not possible ... i donno =( 😕

thanx for your time for looking at this forum hopefully someone can give me some good feedback 🙂

Hi,

Hope my comments help.. Reading tips on here definitely helped me with the August exam, so I want to try and return the favor..

I used Kaplan, though I took the online course as well as using the book and the course is somewhat more detailed (mostly MCAT material). That being said I think the biology and A+P they cover in the book is pretty good. There was though, a surprisingly large amount of Micro that isn't in Kaplan and some of it was a bit random (i.e. I don't think some of it would be covered in a standard lower division micro class). I also used the PCAT audio learn MP3's and listened to the bio sections in the car for a couple of months.

For general chem Kaplan is good. The test tended to be more theoretical, whereas Kaplan goes in more for quantitative questions. The plus side is that if you can do the Kaplan chem in the alloted time than you are in good shape, just make sure you are grasping the concepts along with memorizing formulas and such so you can speed through the easier concept based questions..

For O-chem I used Schaums outlines of General and O-chem (it covers both). It's pretty cheap and a great resource. It had been 10 years since I'd actually taken an o-chem class and it helped me feel confident with the basics.. (i.e. nomenclature, m.p. and b.p., SN1, E1, E2 and SN2).

The best thing is to really use the Kaplan test to practice timing and get comfortable with skipping harder questions and circling back toward the end of the section so you utilize all the time effectively!

Good luck in October, I hope this helps!
