I took 5 Kaplan prac tests and never got above a 240 in physics

I only studied chads and did all his physics problems like 10 times and I got a 290 on the real thing... DON'T STUDY W KAPLAN PHYSICS

Hey optgal,

Did you recently take the OAT? If you could please share your OAT experience with us in regards to using Kaplan/Chad's Videos /OAT Destroyer/ADA OAT Practice test.

Thanks!

Hi all:

I took the OAT yesterday, Feb 1st...290AA/TS

I did not do so great but I feel with my above 3.0 gpa and my extra cirrics (research, shadowing, worked as a healthcare analyst at a consulting firm), I can possible gain admission:

I just wanted to let future OAT takers what to use to use...

GEN CHEM: CHADS VIDEOS AND QUIZZES...thats it
ORG CHEM: CHADS VIDEOS AND QUiZZES...thats it
BIOLOGY: I have attached notes along...memorize each word...if you need more info..research it online somewhere
PHYSICS: CHADS VIDEOS AND QUIZZES...thats it
RC: Practice any comprehension you can find online (mine was a bit harder than ADAs)
Quant: Its honestly 28/40 word problems...so dont go by ADA for quant...you need to somehow get in touch with word problems and keep solving problems..and know TRIG!

PM me with any questions hope this helps!

the physics on the real oat was super easy compared to kaplan. I got like the 80 something percentile. Every practice test with kaplan I did horrendous. I don't know why they make the physics so difficult yet the QR and Bio section easier... ugh.

Im glad Im not the only one who thought that the Kaplan course physics section was indeed HORRENDOUS! totally worthless!!! i did great on the kaplan practice exams on organic every time and on the real thing didnt even come close!! its nothing like the real exam...CHADS videos are the way to go....i wish i had known the first time.....i chose not to retake the oat when i got into PR and just decided to cut my loses even though 4 schools were waiting on new scores....<---stupid move, wish i had done things differently but for whatever its worse chads videos are way more helpful than kaplan...kaplan is helpful in practice exams so you get a feel for the time

^ would please explain why? did you feel like kaplan didnt test realistically? What made the questions on kaplan vs OAT so different? Were there mostly conceptual questions / word problems or something?

I'm curious about these questions too. Posting so it's brought back up again. 🙂

By questions I mean: ^ would please explain why? did you feel like kaplan didnt test realistically? What made the questions on kaplan vs OAT so different? Were there mostly conceptual questions / word problems or something?

I have not taken the OAT yet, but some of the Kaplan OAT questions do seem pretty difficult. I scored 310 on Physics in the 2007 edition without studying. Some questions just were so time consuming and coming back to them later led nowhere... It's probably better to use Cracking the OAT.

I will say that a friend who recently took the OAT and scored really high (>90th percentile) only used Kaplan study materials and Khan Academy videos. He claimed that while the actual OAT was easier, the content from the physics practice tests were quite close to the real thing. That's just an anecdote, of course individual experiences may vary.
