Hey guys:
the raw material in the primitive environment did not include:
A)phosphorus
B)salt
C)methanol
d)water
E)ammonia
what is the correct answer and why?

did not include phosphorus??

think about this, phosphorus is the building block for energy (ATP), the primitive earth enviornment prob did not have phosphorous, but it did have ammonia, sulfur, water, methanol, methane, CO2...it did not have O2

Therefore the early earth enviornment was very reducing, therefore it did not have Oxygen which oxidizes

This was a DAT question, (took in May 2008) except the answers they had were :

Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Carbon, Water, Sulfur


I got frapped with the ethics passage as well.

Yeah its a funny question though, why did the early earth not have an element...thats pretty strange in my opinion

hahaha this question was like number 1 from kaplan's diagnostic exam.

Ya it was, Only elements were C N H and very little O.
P wasn't one of the components of the primordial soup.

according to the miller experiment C, N, O, H were present. some text books include S too.

I would say phosphorous was not in the early earth. My problem is that this experiment was found to be incorrect...

I dunno, its just controversial b/c they are assumptions. If the experiment was correct or if it has proven to be incorrect doesnt really matter. In terms of the DAT, C,N,O,H, and S were in the "early atmosphere."

Man I cant wait to get this thing over with in a few days! Good Luck
