I am preparing to studying for the USMLE and I was wondering if someone could give me some feedback in regards to kaplan's videos? Is it worth getting it or are their lecture notes (the books the give) sufficient? Please help!

I've watched the ethics video, some physio, some micro, some immuno, etc
From what I have watched:
Ethics is amazing - watch it (1hr) and you're done studying that completely.

Physio - there's this one physio guy that teaches (dark-skinned fellow) - AMAZING. PURE GOLD

Immuno/Micro - not the greatest person you'll ever hear lecture, but does a nice job.

Genetics - ehhh. pretty boring lecturer.

Anatomy/Histo/Neuro/Biochem/Pharm - haven't watched enough to give you a good answer

Path - watched the first 30 minutes or so one time. Guy is pretty good imo. I don't know if it's how he talks or whatever, but he does a good job of keeping your interests up and helping you retain the info.

Personally, I don't see how you can just do the live lecture book series. The whole point of those is to correlate with the videos. The lecturers don't go over everything from the books, but they give you some nice ways of remembering it, and add some things that aren't in the books.

Where can one get these Kaplan videos?

legally: kaplan.com and purchase a USMLE Step 1 preparation course.
illegally: a friend of a friend of your friend's probably has the DVDs.

depends on where the balance between your bank account and your ethics lies.

😡😡
Grossly patently illegal , unethical and unprofessional ..
not to mention a slap in the face of a very genourous SDN donor Corp ..😡

how do you know that the people writing/reading this post did not obtain the lectures from Kaplan legally, and just wanted to know which lectures were high yield? now if somebody had posted a link to obtain the lectures illegally, then their individual post should be deleted. but until that happens, nothing illegal, unethical or unprofessional would have occured, and Kaplan ought to be happy about some of the info in MedLovers post

Just a quick comment on the copyright issues. You are allowed to discuss Kaplan videos all you want. No one's done it here yet, but please don't share specific information about how to obtain them illegally.

And yes, you can buy access to them through Kaplan's website as a part of various packages. 🙂

Kaplan anatomy is okay imo
however,
i would stick to HY Gross Anat and Neuro

actually, i didn't even know they had videos until i heard from an international doctor that was preparing to take her step I and step II...they are GREAT (but definitely pricey)...but i originally was trying to study just using the kaplan books and there is a lot of information that the lecturer includes...it is a good deal. You can go into any Kaplan or call them on the phone and ask about the DVD's...they will tell you all the breakdown.

I have another question...are the videos and books from Kaplan sufficient for this test prep--everyone is talking about first aid...i would really appreciate some info so I can really start organizing this information and studying!

My personal favorites were behavioral, pharmacology, and immuno. Pharm is especially good with the cardiac section which in my opinion is the hardest part of pharm; not to mention it rehashes a lot of physio so it cements a lot of concepts in your head. Immuno is getting more and more emphasized and the lady lecturer is really good. Even the guy who does molecular biology is decent as he somehow kept my attention to an extremely dry subject. Pathology is terribly inadequate but goljan rapid review + audio tapes should sufficiently replace the kaplan path prep; and i also hated physiology but only certain sections. The guy who does renal physio IS TERRIBLE i think he's the dark skinned fellow previoulsy mentioned...he spends like 30 minutes on the free water clearance equation with ******ed stories about god knows what. Other sections are adequate especially endocrine, acid/base, and cardiac physio but i felt brs was better. just my opinion
