Hey guys I am a Canadian taking the American DAT at the end of the summer I just finished my exams so I am now in the process of figuring out how to study for it! I've been looking at all the discussions and Ive been getting overwhelmed with all the different study materials people are suggesting. I was planning on taking the Kaplan online class because I find it easier to learn from more of a lecture format rather than completely on my own. It seems that everyone really suggests destroyer but I dont know if I would be able to afford the class and destroyer so Im not really sure what to do! I don't know anyone else taking the test so Im feeling a bit overwhelmed so I'd really appreciate any help you could give! Thanks so much!

ps Im really not trying to be redundant in posting this but the other threads about kaplan online etc seemed to be from a few years ago! Sorry if I missed any threads that were more recent!!

if you are on a tight budget, buy the kaplan blue book ( from someone you know or online somewhere), and then buy the DESTROYER and CRACK THE DAT PAT and whatever other source you need. These resources are vital, kaplan alone wont do you well ( for the most part, there are a few out there that used kaplan alone and did fine, but I hear more stories about how it is not enough).

If you are on a tight budget, you can buy resources that seem to be as good (possibly better) than the Kaplan Course for about half the price. You can use Chad's Videos for Gen/Organic Chem and it feels like a lecture to me. Biology is just straight reading and memorization regardless, very few "concepts" you can be taught IMO.

Chad's- ~$50
DAT and Math Destroyer- ~200 (if you use these forums and find a good deal)
Crack DAT- ~$200-300 (depending on which one you get)
Cliff's AP Biology- ~$15

Bare Basics will run you in the $500 range. You could always ask around if you're in college (find a pre-dental club) and split the Destroyer or something and study together.

Hey guys thanks so much for replying based on your advice I was going to not enroll in the Kaplan course anymore and use that money for the other resources you mentioned. I was planning on getting the Kaplan blue book, destroyer (with the extra math), CDP, cliffs biology, the Chad's videos and topscore. My twin sister is doing the Kaplan mcat on demand course so we may do a bit of joint studying for the gen chem and o chem. Is there anything else you guys really suggest? Oh also at my school I didnt use the Campbells biology book I had "Life the science of biology". I was wondering if Campbells was neccessary (cause Ive noticed a lot of people have used it) or if this would be good enough? Thanks again!

I also just wanted to know if anyone had taken the kaplan online course and liked it?
